Flipchart Fundamentals

Building a better flipchart begins with having the right tools.

We've assembled a list of steps to help you create great flipchart lessons for your students.  Regardless of grade level or curriculum area, these suggestions should provide you with the right tools to make your flipcharts powerful, engaging and pleasing to the eye.

Following some of these simple suggestions will undoubtedly improve your ability to establish student interest, maintain enthusiasm for what is being taught, and maximize interactivity between you and your students.

Let's Get Started!

 

Step 1 - Explore the Possibilities

Before you set out on a journey, it's important to know where you want to go and how you're going to get there.  When constructing flipcharts, one of the best ways to begin is to learn from others who have already completed the journey successfully.

 

 

Promethean has assembled a wide variety of videos for you to explore to see how expert teachers from around the country are developing lessons and engaging students in their Activclassrooms.

The first place to look is Promethean Planet’s Teacher Feature section.  Here, you'll have an opportunity to "explore the possibilities" by viewing teachers delivering exemplary lessons that were submitted on Promethean Planet.  In addition to receiving tips on how to deliver the lesson, you'll also get to download their winning flipchart as well!

Next, head over to the Promethean World website where you will find another library of videos on a variety of topics in the Video Showcase.  For example, if you are a Special Education teacher, you may wish to view the video Engaging Students with Special Needs.

 

Step 2 - Examine the Details

After watching Activclassroom teachers in action, you may want to learn a little about the types of lessons that can be created with Activstudio or Activprimary.  To do so, try out the Curriculum Corner section of Promethean Planet. 

 

 

 

Step 3 - Learn How to Create Your Own

One of the easiest ways to learn how to use Activstudio and Activprimary is through the Promethean Learning website.  You'll find multiple levels of courses, including the FREE Foundation Skills Course.  Interactive and engaging, these courses are self-paced and available 24 hours a day!  The tutorials take you step by step through the software and each course includes assessment of understanding and a certificate of completion.

 

You may also wish to select personalized, face to face training via our Training Department.

 

Step 4 - Download Pre-Made Lessons

There are literally thousands of pre-made flipcharts ready for download in the Resource Section on Promethean Planet.  Planet offers teachers a place to upload their flipchart lessons and share them with others around the country.  Search for ones you want and download them to use with your students.  Once you download the lesson, it's yours to modify, add to, and use as you wish!

 

Oh, and don’t forget to explore the vast resource library that comes WITH your software.  There are more than 15,000 searchable resources already included in the resource library of your software, including images, sounds, flash activities, complete lessons, and much more.  And, you can expand this resource library further by downloading new Resource Packs!

 

Step 5 - Sharpen Your Skills

Once you are familiar with Activstudio or Activprimary, you’ll be ready to move on to more advanced skills and techniques.  Planet's Activtips section offers quick tips for integrating tools and techniques into various curriculum areas.  Inspired by user suggestions and questions, the Activtips section has something for everyone. 

The Forum is another fantastic area for sharpening your skills.  With over 90,000 members worldwide, there's always someone ready and willing to share an idea and offer a helping hand.

 

Step 6 - Keep Practicing

While we put the steps above in order, we encourage you to go back and revisit certain areas as needed.  Watch a video again or check to see if there are new ones.  Take another course on Promethean Learning.  Visit the Recent Resources section to see new lessons that have been added.
