ActivRoom and Elluminate technology is enabling schools from across the Atlantic to share more than just lessons, as ICT Subject Leader, John Adams, from Fosters Primary School in Welling, UK, recently found out.
Promethean Planet has a whole section on ActivRoom devoted to ideas on how to connect your classroom with other pupils from around the world, sharing lessons, culture and learning.
By using our free vRoom download (powered by Elluminate) Planet members can create an online 'virtual' meeting space or classroom, exchanging questions via your Activboard and webcam to any other school with a vRoom!
John Adams is no stranger to using ActivRoom and his vRoom, having already piloted three 'virtual' meetings this year with Rock Island School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
John's most recent meeting has enabled his pupils to share more than just lessons; it's also taught them to be global citizens having learnt about each others cultures, from news to pop music.
John commented: "Our link has been absolutely fantastic in terms of the childrens' learning. The class has been able to extend their work on natural disasters covered in their literacy lessons, by asking questions about America and the hurricane season."
If you're interested in learning about John's first-hand experience of connecting with Rock Island, please visit John's Planet blog article where you can read more about the hurricane season, comparing geographical locations and how easy it is to establish your own connection!
