Two teachers from the US and the UK have become the latest Planet members to use Elluminate technology and connect their classrooms virtually, enabling both sets of students to discover all about life in their respective schools. and countries.
Rock Island Elementary in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Fosters Primary School in Welling, Kent, connected each other's ActivBoards and asked a series of set questions to find out about not only their Activlessons, but to also learn about each other.
By sharing a flipchart each pupil was able to answer questions about their school, where they live, their favorite food and their favorite hobby. They were also able to use Google Earth to 'fly' to each other's school and learn its location.
In order to start off the session, Promethean Teaching and Learning Consultants (TLCs) Shannon Lohse and Selda Ziya helped the two schools initially connect with each other, setting the parameters for the community project and helping the teachers establish the requirements.
Ms Allen (from Rock Island Elementary) and John Adams (from Fosters Primary) were keen teachers to participate in sharing values and lessons across the Atlantic. Commenting on prior to the initial session, John said: "We had a great session looking at Rock Island on Google Earth and the surrounding area. My class is VERY excited about all hopefully going well and have left the room buzzing with lots and lots of things they want to find out!"
To experience some of this excitement, why not watch the video below and see how these two schools divided by distance, but united by learning, we're able to share lessons with their ActivBoard and Elluminate.
