See how others have been lighting the flame of learning with Promethean…

‘Power up your Avatars’ - Aimer taps into the Pokemon culture with team based assessment

AIMER for Activote is the new student assessment and response solution from AIMER Education. It is a result of a collaboration between Promethean Ltd and AIMER Education and is the first AIMER system to support the Promethean Activote System.

The Activote handset along with an optional Activhub allows Activote and AIMER software to work seamlessly together. The USB ActivHub allows this system to work with any whiteboard, thus you don’t have to have a Promethean one.

A hugely engaging element of the Aimer system is the set of team based avatars. The aggregate performance of the teams helps build up the various ‘powers’ of their chosen character - jumping, running, etc. At the end, the teams’ avatars race for the winning line and a place on the winners podium. It is not just a game - behind the scenes a powerful analysis engine provides a full range of individualised reports for the teacher to track the performance of each one of their pupils.

Arizona School District integrates regional learning management system with Promethean Responses systems to deliver 21st Century Assessment

In what is perhaps a clear vision of the future for formative and benchmark assessment, Tucson Unified School District (TUSD), which is the largest in Arizona, is piloting a powerful integration between Promethean’s response systems and ATI-Online’s Galileo K12 system.

Galileo K12 provides a research-based electronic system that links assignments, lesson plans, gradebook, and online testing with district goals and state standards for the Tucson school district and many others.

The new functionality allows formative and benchmark tests to be administered directly through the Activboards found in the Tucson classrooms, essentially removing the need for time consuming paper based tests or one-to-one computer access normally used to manage many of the assessments needed in tracking and monitoring learning across the district.

Savings on paper and administration costs are enormous and because assessment can happen “on-demand”, a host of new and effective formative assessment strategies can be employed directly in the classroom.

The SDK has been used to capture results directly into the web based database from the devices - enabling instant, detailed reporting to student, teachers, parents and adminstration staff.

The Learning management system functionality of Galileo K12 also allows the teacher to manage remediation resources, such as the many thousands of flipchart lessons from the Promethean Planet community and Promethean’s content partners. This enables the teachers to adapt and personalise the curriculum thereby continually maximising the impact of lessons.

The web based functionality also permits some very innovative approaches to where the data can be sent. Teachers can use personal computing devices to monitor tests at they are taking place. Using an iPod Touch or iPhone or similar web enabled device, a teacher can be roaming the class (see picture) while adminstering the tests and having up to the second live information about each child’s performance in their hand so that they can make instant interventions where and when needed.

Scholastic develops over 700 lessons in flipchart format for its hugely popular “100’s” series

Scholastic have teamed up with Promethean to create a wide range of engaging cross curricular whiteboard lessons for Activprimary.

The series called 100 Activprimary Interactive Whiteboard Lessons provides teachers with a bank of ready-made lesson plans covering many of the primary subjects – and are mapped to the National Curriculum.

Harnessing Promethean’s thought leadership in effective use of interactive technology, this exciting software is designed to reflect best practice in using interactive whiteboards and to support the teacher’s use of this powerful educational tool. The inspirational lessons cover many National Curriculum subjects – and can be used on a whiteboard with little or no preparation. They are perfect for all levels of experience and are an essential for any users of Promethean’s Activprimary software on any whiteboard.

Market leading synthetic phonics scheme based on Promethean formats

Synthetic Phonics has proven in research to be a reading and writing methodogy that accelerates learning and clearly raises standards.  With professional development and books developed originally by Ruth Miskin and with digital content by Promethean, Oxford University recognised the value of this combination and now distribute it.

Oxford University Press have created a huge library of supplementary digital content for the market leading Read Write Inc. scheme using Promethean’s flipchart format and Promethean Activprimary software.

With the combination of rich multimedia playback and the in-built annotation and sound recording features of the Promethean software, it has everything needed to bring synthetic phonics to life.

Blending print and digital for language learners

Working with Activlingua - a content arm of Promethean, Pearson have developed award winning software specially adapted for the interactive whiteboard. Highly interactive and engaging content was developed using Promethean Activsoftware, meaning that the content was instantly compatible with the Promethean Activboards that the British Council have standardised on.

Licensing of software enabled Pearson Longman to create a standard package that utlises the powerful Activ Interactive whiteboard software for any user, regardless of whether they used a non-Promethean Interactive whiteboard or simply use with a data projector or laptop.

Pearson has this to say:

“Our goal is to support teachers in every way in the classroom. As we talk to more teachers and understand your excitement and anxieties with new technology we are striving to provide the support you require through the development of new teaching aids and digital solutions.

We have taken some of our most popular courses and adapted them for the Interactive Whiteboard.”

You can see Pearson’s content in action on their website.

Innovative company harnesses FLASH and Internet Connectivity with the SDK for their highly interactive multimedia

e-gadget factory has used the Activote SDK to retro-fit Promethean Activote to its popular cross curricular flash gadgets. The Science, Maths and Technology v-gadget Pack covers 100 topics that incorporate multiple voting based activities for use with Activote handsets. It is hard to envisage but the v-gadgets literally generate millions of unique voting questions and activities automatically.

Unlike ad-hoc voting, all auto-generated assessment question data - and pupil responses - are automatically stored. These unique flash based v-gadget activities react dynamically to student responses from Activote and extend the handsets to accept multiple button presses as a response to a single question. This allows coordinates to be entered as a response or a sequence of button presses to be used.

e-gadget factory a Promethean Development Network partner is also involved in a number of other developments including ActivExpression and has expertise that may be helpful on your project.

3D games and Promethean whole group response integration bring ‘adventure’ to assessment

“Your team is trapped! - Your next answer will determine if you are entombed in the sunken ship or make it to the Helicopter!”

Robert Powell, a leading authority on assessment in the UK has used a ‘developer kit for Activote’ from Promethean to make a new range of software that lets every learner in a class take an active role in an on-screen adventure. He says…

“The big challenge with assessment is to gather information and data to help both teachers and learners to identify strengths, weaknesses and next steps for progress. There is a lot of evidence that ‘over-testing’ can damage both the curriculum and the level of learning, and we have tried to develop software that motivates and engages children while at the same time providing important information for evaluating progress and identifying needs.”

On the software…

“The feedback we get from teachers and learners has been excellent. Some classes arrive in the room and ask for a test using the software; not a request you normally get from young people!”

Called ‘Quest Mathematics - AfL’ it blends the appeal of computer animation & video games with differentiated assessment and a team based approach. Students can battle their way through the Jungle, the Underwater landscape or brave the Haunted House. They have to answer questions selected from a vast database to get through each stage. Each quest is full of very high quality animated movies and themed music to keep the kids focussed and engaged. Just see the pics!

The teacher can organise their class into an assortment of mixed ability or levelled teams and assign differentiated questions sets to each. With over 18,000 questions covering the complete Maths curriculum and the ability to differentiate by NC Levels - each learner can operate and progress at their own level even when being taught in a whole class situation with an Activboard and Activotes.

For fully ‘personalised learning’ or if the school does not yet have Promethean Activote’s - the software also support network deployment where students can take part in the Quest alone or with a group of friends.

Even though the students enjoy the activity as teams and can be encouraged to debate and solve problems together - each individual’s performance is tracked automatically and is exportable as Excel for further analysis.

It really is a complete ‘plug and play’ system for fully differentiated and personalised assessment for learning.

Triangle Man’s popular site now features Promethean Response System integration for easy whole class engagement

Learning clip, a UK based education publisher have adapted their online FLASH based multimedia Maths lessons to work with Promethean Activote devices using the Promethean SDK.

It is a project to generate and make available discreet clips of digital media for insertion into primary maths lessons, ideally although not exclusively for presentation on an Interactive Whiteboard.

What were rich learning objects for teacher led whiteboard or “one to one” PC use, have now been adapted for whole group interaction using Activote, so that every learner can participate in each step, providing instant feedback to the teacher so lessons can be adapted to ensure that all learners benefit and are not left behind.

Eduvision builds Design and Technology solution with Promethean

Specifically aimed at supporting the primary school Design and Technology curriculum, these interactive resources and flipcharts have been created using Activprimary to provide opportunities for child participation at the interactive whiteboard demonstrating their learning and understanding.

The flipcharts have been developed in Activstudio for teaching in Activprimary and incorporate innovative features within starter activities, investigations, practical activities and plenaries. Video clips demonstrate and promote practical skills and techniques, animated word walls reinforce and apply English, Maths and Science.

The Primary Engineer series has been accredited to the Promethean ‘Powered’ status. This means that the software includes the advanced features of Activprimary or Activstudio, such as integrated voting and handwriting recognition tools.

The Structures and Mechanisms CD is based on ‘thinking, designing and doing’. It provides opportunities for children to gradually improve their skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making through interactivity with their teacher, their classmates and this powerful, new, supportive technology.

EDpaX creates over 10,000 activities in flipchart format

EDpaX is a group of experienced educationalists. Drawing on a wealth of experience and skills gained in the teaching profession, they have designed a programme of Interactive Whiteboard lessons for teachers and pupils using Activboards.

The Maths activities are for 5-14 age range and have up to 10,000 editable flipchart pages. The flipcharts have been designed in Activprimary and as all Promethean flipcharts, they can be operated in all Activsoftware, on PC and Mac.  Teachers can use Activsoftware to edit the lessons and adapt them to their own particular preferences.

Because the activities are in flipcharts, they automatically benefit from having Activote or Expression interaction available at the click of a button.
