Any chance for some more ACTIVity templates??

Ideas:

Crosswords

Why is there such a small bank of available ACTIVities?

Dave,

I won't speak for Promethean but I believe it is up to us a users to submit activities that are content oriented to be used in the classroom. They are the equipment specialists, we teachers are the content specialists.

That said, Promethean just had a deadline for an ACTIVities contest (here in the US?) that should add quite a few to the mix.

As I train teachers and make my own lessons, I hear teachers want to integrate technology but are not willing to do the work to learn the software and hardware to make it work for them. Many complain that there aren't enough lessons out of the box for them to use in the classroom. What I don't get is that some get mad when somebody comes into their classroom and tells them how to teach, yet they are allowing the same when they use somebody elses pre-made lesson. (The sound you hear is skeeter stepping off of his soapbox)

Have a great day!!!

Ah no no, I'm more than willing to make my own activities but the ACTIVities (such as the blockbusters game, a question of..., etc) is what I'm referring to. Didn't intend to cause any offense :)

As far as I'm aware, it's not possible to make the wizards for these types of activities myself. Quite difficult to create in AS2 as well, really.

There are more of these activities which can be purchased with eLearningCredits though Robert Powell Publications website below:

Dave,

No offense taken. I just got on my soapbox for a minute about something I feel strongly about!!!

I always welcome new resources , especially when I don't have to make them!!! :D :D :D

Sharon, I wonder how they relate to US courses?? Do they sell and ship to the states???

I doubt the Geography and History CD's would relate to US courses. Doesn't look like any of those CDs relate to the courses than the training centre I work at provides.

Back to the drawing/activ... board :D

Looks like a business opportunity for some Flash-savvy teacher here!

Dave I use crosswords and word searches as plenary activities in some of my classes.

I just use a software programme to make them, then use the camera tool to photograph them straight onto the flp.

Bit late at mo, but will dig out one tomorrow and attach it to show you what I mean.

Here you go, then I just use the pen for the crossword and the highlighter for the word search

Hi there

I don't know if this link is any use to anyone? http://www.schoolhousetech.com/

Although the materials here are paper based, you can still create the crossword/wordsearch on screen and then snapshot it to use on your whiteboard. I used to use this a lot and introduced it to many teachers who wanted to quickly create maths and vocabulary type practice questions.

Look out for the free downloads of the Wordsearch factory and the Basic Facts Maths one. Even the full price versions are good value. Although US made it's easy to alter headers so that they read 'Maths' and not 'Math' etc.

Hope this helps +wave+

Greetings,

Since we are dropping names of already created activities. Has anyone used any of the interactives at
www.echalk.co.uk or www.pintarlearning.com.

Another comment, I side with AIRSKEETER and his commnets on self preparing activities. But all my preparation is very book specific. In Math my lessons are centered around the use of Prentice Hall's Pre-Algebra and in World History classes using Glencoe's Medieval and Early Modern Times or worksheets from Performance Education's similarly titled Medieval and Early Modern Times series.

Using an OCR scanner I am able to translate any hardcopy/non-digital material into parallel worksheets and flipcharts. All this being said I guess why I launched windily into this discussion is because when I looked at Robert Powell's website the material looked to be worth the cost, but was not cost effective when matching useable topics. That is maybe two or three topics match, but not so many that would make purchase cost feasible.

It would be nice if Glencoe or Performance Education in History or Prentice Hall in Math had ACTIVboard based material, but since that's not the case if someone out there is using any of these series and wants to trade flipcharts I'd be interested in trading. I mean this sounds like a Deadhead looking for a concert tapes.

Anyway thanks for listening/reading.
