View Full Version : Cracked Pens?

I have recently noticed that several pens for our Activboards are developing small cracks in them right around the orange seal where the plastic pieces connect. More recently, the cracks are affecting the pens performance. These cracks are developing from regular use as I have not witnessed anyone "abusing or misusing" them. It seems to be a manufacturing flaw and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same experience?

If you contact Customer Support on +1 678 762 1500 with the serial numbers of the board that the pens came with and it is still within the 1 year warranty we will replace FOC.

That's strange, Nick. I read this then looked down to the pen that was next to my keyboard, only to find that there is a small crack devloping just below the orange seal, running down towards the bottom of the pen (not towards the nib side).

Going to investigate tomorrow morning when the classrooms are empty and see if all my pens are getting like that...

Glad to bring to your attention Dave, these forums can be quite helpful.

Looked at all my pens... just that one. Not really an issue for me as of yet.

I am finding this often, as I work in many schools throughout the North Island of NZ supporting teachers with an ACTIVboard. Back in the office, we have come up with three theories - perhaps it is due to the pen getting stuck in the pen holder attached to the board or is there undue pressue being put on the nib while it is being used? or is there a design/manufacturing fault which needs to be addressed?

Although replacement is offered within the year, the life expectancy should surely be longer than this!:(

I have had the same problem. I am now on my third pen after two "crack ups". Thanks for the number to phone. I had the first replaced, but not the second. I have a version 3 pen with my slate, but it isn't used as often. No wear and tear yet. I was also told once that the nibs wear down. Is that part of the problem? When my pens have cracked I tried taping the break area closed and that worked for awhile. I also tried reversing the nib every time an error occurred and that too worked for awhile.

A closing question. If you are within the one-year warranty, when you get the replacement pen, does a new one-year begin?

Good question! DOES IT?!

Hello

The pens like anything else do not get another year when it replaces the original one, the warranty runs until the original one ends.

The Cracks that appear do not create any functional issues the pen will work regardless of any hairline cracks. The activpen 3's currently being issued do not suffer these problem.
