Do you know if it would work for SLED? Enterprise version? Also wondering if the reminder to clean the filter on the projector is from being linux on the ubuntu or because it is new to inspire? Great add, Thanks,,,

The projector warning is new across all operating systems now, glad you like it (you won't say that in 2 weeks time when it keeps reminding you :) )
Are you using SLED 11 or 10 ? I am pretty sure it won't work with SLED 10, because the X server is different and it needs recompiling for it.
It might work with SLED 11, looking at http://distrowatch.com, SLED 11 and openSuse 11.1 share quite a lot. I am downloading it now, I'll keep you posted. Of course, there's nothing to stop you trying too and let me know...

Finally got around to checking it, and it works with SLED 11 :)

We are using Linkat 3 Beta 2 here, and recordmydesktop is provided on the DVD.
You need to enable it as a software source.
This can be done in Yast.
If you are using Gnome,
Use the System menu and select Yast (the last option).
Select "Software" on the left hand-side.
Select "Software Repositories" (this hasn't been translated in the Catalan version !)
If you have just disabled the DVD as a source in the past, you can just re-enable it: find it in the list, and tick the
"Enabled" / "Habilitada" check box
If you have removed it, you can reenter it:
Click on "Add" / "Afegeix" and select DVD.
By the way, there is a Linkat repository on our website. You must replace our opensuse repository with this one:
http://activsoftware.co.uk/linux/repos/linkat/3
It contains a newer version of Inspire than the Suse version.
For it to work better, you should turn off compiz or the Gnome compositing feature.
(it is a repository to be accessed by Linkat's software. You cannot access it with Firefox / Web Browser).

Installing software on a Linux system is done via repositories. The repositories contain software that can be installed, in the form of DEB or RPM files (or at least, those are the two most popular formats).
Installation files on a repository contain infomation on what other files they need to install, this is called dependencies. This way, you only need to include your program with an installer, and just point at other people's installers for dependencies.
As long as the dependencies are available on the repository, the installation will be automatic.
Inspire has a dependency on a program called recordmydesktop, which is available on the DVD. To install recordmydesktop, you must either find the RPM for it and install it by hand, or you can let Linux's very clever dependency system do it for you.
It does that by downloading the dependencies from a software repository. Linkat's online repository actually contains less software than what is on the DVD, so in order to install other software, you must enable the DVD as a repository (it is the default).
Copying the contents of the DVD on your disk is not enough: it doesn't install the software, it just copies installation files. You could probably copy the DVD on your drive, and point the repository system to the directory where you copied it from. You may be able to find information on how to achieve this on the openSuse forums.
If you do not want to setup the DVD as a repository and you have copied the files on your disk, look for a file called recordmydesktop*.rpm (* being a version number). You can also put the DVD in the driver, and look for the file too. Once you have found it, you must install it, there are several ways of doing this depending on the distributions. It is much easier to let the automatic repository system do this for you.
I hope this helps; you can also find a lot extra of information on the Internet about software installation on Linux, and how it differs from Windows and Mac. It seems strange at first if you come from a Windows background, but it is a lot more powerful (in my opinion) than the Windows way.
The opensuse forums are here:

Hello, Pierre.
I am a newbie for Linux. Correct me if I am wrong. We will need to open the repository using a Linux system?
