View Full Version : Default icons for flipcharts

Hi, just a wish-list thing but I'd like to see the file
/usr/local/bin/activsoftware/flipchart.ico
put somewhere more usable for the file-manager (nautilus) to make use of the icon. (I know I can do some stuff with ~/.icons but I'd prefer it to be something that happens on install.)
I'm sure there are lots of other things I'd like to see, but they are ActiveInsipre specific, not Linux (well, not yet anyway.)
Thanks for the fun software.

the ico is just a left-over from the Windows install, it isn't used on Linux (who'd want a .ico when you can have a png ?)
The png to use is in
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/asstudio.png

Silly me, of course that's what I want. I see now the issue is that I'm not using one of these as my default themes:
/usr/share/icons/HighContrastLargePrintInverse/48x48/mimetypes/application-x-asstudio.png
/usr/share/icons/Human/48x48/mimetypes/application-x-asstudio.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/asstudio.png
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/mimetypes/application-x-asstudio.png
/usr/share/icons/oxygen/48x48/mimetypes/application-x-asstudio.png
So, these still aren't set as my default icon unless I pick one of the themes mentioned here. From a rough reading of my system, it looks as though the mime type is installed for "application/x-asstudio" but no default application is associated. Which is weird, cause in nautilus I can double click my .flipchart file. (Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.)
So, unless I set it for each .flipchart, my system does default the icon file. So, the question is, how do I set the default across my whole system (or better yet, can the installer do it next time?)

It is my understanding that hicolor/48x48 is what is used for defaults, but in reality it doesn't seem to happen this way !
On my Debian system, it works : I can change the icon theme and it always keeps the icon for flipcharts.

Are you using an icon theme you downloaded after installing ActivInspire ?
If so, can you tell me which one ? I'll download it and try a few things....

I've got an ASUS EEE PC running Easy Peasy which is an Ubuntu based system. It has it's own these mostly based on "human" (I think). I installed Easy Peasy first, and then ActiveInspire. But I've tried a few of the themes and only the ones that are listed above seemed to set the icon right. (Also, the icon for the flip chart on Windows is the plain one, without the pen and clicky device, but the ones above are more detailed.)
On a side note, ActiveInspire doesn't detect my printer. There is a printer installed through Gnome that can be used from other applications, but ActiveInspire doesn't seem to detect it.

I have downloaded EasyPeasy and installed it in Virtualbox, I'll let you know if I find anything about how to get the png to register properly...

After installing Inspire, I find the same thing as you: the icon is not correct. But as soon as I go into Preferences | Appearance, the icon appears correctly (I don't even need to change the icon theme or anything).
Is your system also behaving like this ?
