What are the plans for releasing a MSI version of Inspire Professional Edition for network deployment?

There was an MSI for Sutdio so I'm thinking there will be one for Inspire.

Hi Dan

The download is already a networkable version. When you begin the install one of the choices is install on a network/server I seem to recall. Does this help?

The ActivInspire download contains all the installers already as MSI files.
When running the download, on the ‘Setup Type’ dialog, there is now an option (third one down) for ‘Network Install’.
Selecting this option will copy each chosen installer component as an ‘Administrative Server image’ ready for network deployment.

Neil, Laura, anyone,

The same q? for Activstudio/primary?

We received an order from a large TTI in december for the MSI or netwrook version of Studio and Primary and to date it remains unshipped becasue it was withdrawn.

They also bought sessions for Studio and Primary at £300 each, and are now expecting the MSI.

CAn you help?

The standard installers for both Studio and Primary V3 where MSI as well, it's just that they were wrapped up in an installer executable. This made it less obvious that they where MSI files and not easy for an average user to know what to do with it.
The separate Network Editions simply removed some of that confusion and handled the work for them.
There is however a document/guide available that details how to use the standard Studio or Primary installer CD’s for network deployment.
I suggest getting in touch with Tech Support to get a copy.
Hope that helps...

I am working to get Inspire deployed on my school network in my user capacity as Head of Maths.
It is now December 2009 and our school IT Network team have expressed concerns about the lack of provision of MSI releases of Inspire updates. This is holding up progress as we only have Inspire running on one computer in the school as it is not deployed across our network for all users. Plans to roll out Inspire are currently suspended as a result.
Please can the software developers offer some support comments and assurances for me on this matter?

Hi,

As Neil mentioned earlier in the thread, the ActivInspire download contains all the installers already as MSI files.

Also, when you run the install package, there is an option for ‘Network Install’. Selecting this option will copy each chosen installer component as an ‘Administrative Server image’ for you, ready for deployment onto your network.

Kind Regards,
Dave

It seems to me that MSIs are only available for “major” releases. For example when version
1.2.13973 went to 1.2.14501 there appeared to be no installable download available from for the updated verion.

Now that version 1.3.15321 is available we can get the MSIs for that version but what will happen when it is updated before version 1.4?

I would like to know if MSIs are available for every release or only for certain releases?

All of our Windows software releases are MSI files including those updates that are only available via the 'Dashboard check for Updates' as in the v1.2.13973 to v1.2.14501 change.

All of these installers have the MSI file wrapped up inside an executable to make it easier for end users to install them without having to be concerned over the command line switches needed to install an MSI file correctly.

In order to extract these MSI files from the executable, simply run the installer with the '/a' switch from a command line or Windows 'Run' box.

Hope that helps.

Neil.

Neil. Thank you for the respnse - what you mention is very good news. When a "minor" update is downloaded via the dashboad (as you mention) - is an executable then saved somewhere? Thanks.

Yes the executable is saved to your local drive. The location will be determined by your default browser settings or chosen by yourself as this download process is handled by your browser and not ActivInspire.

i.e. You will get the standard browser 'Open or Save this File' dialog and using Firefox and Vista as an example it would default to saving into C:\Users\user name\Downloads
