First, I want to say that I love everything that has been done to enhance the user experience in ActivInspire. Unfortunately, our school uses PDF files on a daily basis (both from our copier and textbook publishers). Without any way to import PDF files (a la ActivStudio for Mac), I can't use Inspire on a daily basis. We were told that PDF support was coming soon in a post from one of the Promethean folks. Please reassure me that this is still the case! :)

The option to print a PDF is available through the print menu.

There are a few thing that did not make it into this release because they posed a risk to the main functionality.
However they WILL be there in a point release.
And those are....

PDF Import.
Right now in the office I can import a PDF into Inspire. But we need to test it to the point of collapse before it can make it into the production release.
Sorry that it is not there right now .

Any way I can help test it? You know, in a real world setting. ;)

Good news! We found a work-around for importing .pdf files into ActivStudio3.
Open .pdf in Adobe Standard, save as .jpg. This saves each page as an image. Open Power Point, click on New, Photo Gallery (a free download from MicroSoft). Browse to the folder with the .jpegs. Select all by holding the shift key. Click insert or open. (Delete the first slide of photo gallery). Save.
Now in ActivStudio, in Design Mode, go to File, Import, choose from PPT (Power Point), each page as a single image. Browse to your PPT photo file. Each image is place on a separte flipchart page!

Can't you just import the jpeg of the pdf into Inspire either using the camera tool or through the Resource Browser?

Yes, you can. Again, it's a work-around, but it's pretty easy. The trick is to first put your pdf reader into full-screen mode. Then, 'camera the full-screen, insert into new page, repeat. A few times practice, and it flows easily.

I have a district (Mac) that is putting off updating to Inspire until the import from pdf comes back...
Thanks for working on this.

This works well, but using the full-screen camera option will bring in areas around the edge of the target page.
I use the 'Area' camera option to select the exact region without margins or surrounding area.
Once that is set for the first page it will select exactly the same size/position each time you set up for a shot.

This will be a deal breaker for our district. We will probably delay moving to Inspire because of this. Yes, there are work arounds, but for our new users it is just too much to have to deal with. Does anyone have a time frame?:(

I have taken my PDF files and do a Save As and turn them into JPEGs. Then they will drag right onto an Inspire flipchart!
