I bet you guys already know this, but if you turn your itouch/iphone calculator through 90 degrees you turn it into a scientific calculator

I use my iPhone calculator all the time and never knew about this. Thanks Chris!
Now I'm going to try turing 90 in all my apps! :)

Yep... Quick Graph is really nice - just added it to another I had!...

Very tactile - spin and zoom using multi-touch.

One for the list of "must have" iPod touch/iPhone apps

iFart ideas...... with some help from some Year 4 and Year 6's at lunchtime..

NOTE: To get the best out of this - a iPod audio cable lets you connect it to you speaker system or you can connect it to the teacher's microphone if you have Activsound - which has a special jack socket for auxilary audio input.

You also need the software.

Estimating time (for youngsters)

Set the Stealth iFart mode (secretly) and then get them to count how long it takes from activation to an iFart - (they could use Expression to send their estimates) and the teacher than displays the numbers - perhaps discussing the bell curve that is likely to result... they may then ask them to use the first set of results to then refine their answer - before revealing the result. You can make additional maths questions on the criteria for success - i.e. what are the real numbers if we want 90% of the class to estimate with 20%, 90% of the time.

For advanced students you can:

Use non standard measure such as a heartbeat or rotations of a ceiling fan as a timing tool... Ask them how accurate they think they are...

.... a the end of the lesson be ready with a good line..

Language Arts: Metaphor, Onomatopoeia and Adjectives

Let them hear a couple of the example and give them the name... e.g. "The Muffler", "Sick Dog", "The Wipe Out"... "Bhhhh rrrrump.... "

Then play some of the others and have them use Expression to text names or made up words to describe them. They can then listen again and vote on the list to identify the best

This can be extended by having the describe the smells that could go with each e.g. "pungent" or "eggy and sulfurous" Award points for really "good" adjectives/phrases such as "insidious" or a "subtle poison"

IT: Make your own in Activstudio

Have the students use the full software

Use the sound recorder to make a series of sound files on the page

Drag them to an object that has been set as a "container" and place a text label next to each

Set the restrictor of the container to allow only vertical movement

Place a frame over the sliding menu to finish it off.

You can add extras like a countdown clock to play a fartfile after a preset period to recreate the advanced functions of iFart

Save the flipchart on the network and share with the class

Advanced IT: Make an iPhone app...

Download the iPhone/iPod touch SDK from Apple - and make their own

Upload it to the app store - sell it for $1 and then retire a few weeks later

Physical Ed:

See how many armpit farts you can do in a minute.

Physical Ed 2:

Activate the security fart which set the motion sensor. See if you can carry the device between two locations without setting it off.

Design and Technology: Treasure Box

Construct a security box containing some treasure that is protected by a Security Fart. The children must get into the box with out activating the alarm - they can use straws, paper wire, pipe cleaners and sticky tape and cannot touch the treasure with their hands. Teams can either "break in" or "make the treasure box"

Drama:

Take popular movie scripts, plays, stories or quotations - and narrate the key passages - the student must pick the best sound and time to let one off for maximum impact..

Geography:

Take four iPods and have the children set each to a different stealth time. Move these to the four compass points in the class. Activate them all at the same time.

The children must then say the order in which they were heard... S, E, N, W...

Senses:

The students are blindfolded and must use their hearing sense to find the fart - use a stealth fart every five seconds

Philosophy:

...while we may all differ in our beliefs, wealth and health - our biology binds us all together...like the air we all breathe.

It also has classroom management benefits...

Reward:

First on the finger = first on the iFart... This work for me (almost better than "first pop on the bubble wrap" as an incentive to good behaviour and performance)

Tell me we are near a holiday!

Thanks Mark, you have far too much time on your hands...
Its nearly time for holidays, I have far too many games on my itotch, I personally blame my 4 year old son, who now know how to find them in apps.... and down loads them
