This flipchart always reminds me of the fruit machine idea, where you have to match the 3 windows. Move the arrows up and down past the windows, Put two definitions in the window and match the shape, or have a shape and one definition and match the other.
See what you think and add any ideas

Chris,
This is great! I have always loved creating moving boxes like these with a window.
You can also have a number line, then a math symbol (+, -, x, etc) and then another number line. So students would get a random math equation to solve.
One question. These might just be left over from building the flipchart page, but why are there 2 blue strips on the left of the page? I didn't know if they did anything.
Great stuff! Thanks!

Scott or Chris,
Are there instructions on how to create the moving boxes with the windows?

I don't know if there are any directions, but this is a great idea for a future Activtip. I will put it on my list.
But to help you out now, check out the Activtip on "Pull Out Words"
This moving boxes is the same idea. Instead of having pull out words, just have a text box and set the restriction to only move vertically.

This is a great idea Chris! I haven't seen this before. I'll have to have a play with this!

The blue bits are left over from a backround colour change and page resizing nothing else.
I love the idea of a calculator random generator.
I will put together a flipchart on how to create this type of page and post it here next week.
I love your creative thinking, keep posting your ideas as it gives me further ideas myself.

I figured they were just left over from making the page, but I thought I would ask.
I look forward to seeing your radom calculator generator.
I have also made a sample page, where it isn't a line, but rather a circle. I have even made the top box an action to move so much on each turn, so it has a very random feel.

Scott,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll go look at the Activtip and start practicing.:) I have used the restricted movement, and my students went wild!! They were oooing and ahhhing all over the place. Definitely kept their attention focused.

OK then here we go, this is not exactly the same as the original, but attached is a flipchart going from page to page on how to create such a fruit machine, see what you think.
The first page is the completed item - random calculator

Chris - The Random Calculator is awesome! I like how you can see the outline of the boxes when they are in the color. Very well done!

Chris,
Thank you for the very detailed picture instructions.[clap] I don't think I would have been able to understand written instructions. :D I'm going to have to give this one a try!

Chris,
Thanks for putting these all together! Love the way they are all done! Can't wait to see how other people use this skill to enhance their lessons.
Does anyone know what this kind of activity might be called?
