Yet another idea!
How about using this two page flipchart to help with the ideas of simple equations, use the up and down arrows to change the value of the fruits. I would love to see you post some similar ideas here for other to see, you could easily adapt this for simultaneous equations, someone have ago and share it here.

I love these ideas! I do have question. I cannot get the up/down arrows to do anything. Is it because I am working from home, not hooked up to my board, or is it something else? It's probably something very basic, but I'm still pretty much a novice at creating my own materials.

Hi,
You are mostly likely in the "design view" mode of the flipchart and hence the actions are not working.
If you toggle away from the design mode, then it will all work fine.
