Hi, little bit cheeky here but I'm having no joy with the Technical dept @ Promethean so I thought I would see what you users think. Basically I'm starting to find problems with ActivPrimary3 when it's put into desktop mode. Basically it kills the machines performance. No other s/ware is running just AP3. Close off AP3 and performance come back. Tech support have suggested it's normal even on most modern machines. I personally haven't seen it of newer or older machines so I'm looking for a wider viewpoint.

So, USERS of AP3 please try it in desktop mode and then just goto Start Menu and try loading something up. Does your machine slow down and appear juddery? If so REPORT it. Out of interest my machine spec is as follow:

Athon AMD XP2400 processor
1GB Memory
40Gb HD
MSI Motherboard (MS 6738)
Windows XP
Open Office 2.4
52x CD

????

Before you say I've checked all systems drivers and everything is installed. I've checked for viruses, adaware/malware using Sophos and nothing. The machine was even re-built back in August 2008.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has experienced this type of problem with AP3.

Nigel

Ok folks I've resolved it. It's down to Desktop annotate settings in the software. As default the software sets it to Overlay mode which has a biggish impact on the systems performance. Switch it to Photo mode and the machine works a dream. So there you have it. What the differences are I'm not 100% sure but I'll find out !!!

Hiya

The differences are:

Overlay mode - you are interacting with the live desktop & can annotate etc on top of it but still access the desktop and your other programs
Photo mode - takes a snapshot of the desktop when you go to it & behaves like a flipchart. You can't access your desktop or programs whilst in that mode.

Hi Louise,
Thanks for your response. I've just tried that again and with AP3 in Photo mode I can access programs without any problems at all when when I put the software into desktop mode!! Put the setting back into Overlay mode and it still does the same but a lot slower. I can't see what the differences are apart from machines being very slow when in overlay mode. You'll have excuse me if I don't know the software inside out but I get the feeling we might have uncovered a little bug here.

For the records I'm using version 3.7 (build19) of the software and ActivDriver 4.1.14.20
What version do you have?
