Kidspiration and ActivBoard

I have many Kidspiration activities and now that I have an ActivBoard, I'd like to use them together. On my Windows XP PC, I have version 3 of Kidspiration (which includes electronic whiteboard support), but I'm having trouble getting it working.

I launch ActivPrimary and click the Desktop Mode icon. I launch Kidspiration. I make sure that I have Stylus Mode enabled. The Handwriting Area is visible on the lower portion of the screen. I tried drawing letters in the handwriting area with the Marquee Select tool and the Pen tool, but nothing showed up in the handwriting area. Can anybody help me with this problem?

You need to be connected to the Activboard, or to a "Promethean device" like the Activhub to allow the recognition tools to work.
Are you trying this while connected to the board?

Like Hilary said, you would need to be connected to a board.

I would first try to use the Handwriting Rec in Activstudio and see if it works in AS first.

Thanks. Yes I am at an ActivBoard when I am trying it. Should I be trying to type text in the lined window open at the bottom, or should I draw my text in the recognition box in the recognition window in ActivStudio/ActivPrimary?????

you do not need to be connected to the Activboard for handwriting recognition to work.

Handwriting recognition will work if you have the activtablet connected properly with its native driver.

Kbenson..I am attaching a screen recording and hopefully this will help you.
I use Inspiration...made by the same company that makes Kidspiration.

You of course have to be in stylus mode.

You can have shape recognition to work without doing anything.
To write and have handwriting recognition to work inside the geometric shapes you create with Inspiration/Kidspiration, you need to activate handwriting recognition and start writing inside the shapes you just created.
Please see attached screen recording. I made this without being connected to the Activboard

To write in the Kidspiration "handwriting recognition box":
* Launch Kidspiration
* Turn on Stylus Mode
* Show handwriting recognition box

* Launch ActivStudio/ActivPrimary
* Turn on handwriting recognition mode in ActivStudio/ActivPrimary

In Kidspiration, with the pen as a mouse, click a symbol once to select it then one more time to go into text mode.

When you write in the handwriting recognition box and then stop writing, Kidspiration puts its interpretation of the handwritten text into the symbol.
