The countdown clock was always a very useful device to have in a lesson; I found it was an excellent tool for focusing my students, especially the lower ability with lots of short focused tasks. However, what I found useful was to have the clock already set for 5 mins, 10 mins etc…
I have created a flipcharts on how to create the clocks in advance, for this you will find them in the resources on Planet and to down load one use the following:
Keyword(s) clock count down Subject Area Maths
You will find some clocks with count downs already actions already embedded, of cousre you could make clocks that count up too.
