Hi,

This is the first time I've been on the Promethean site. We got 3 boards a year and a half ago, but my classroom didn't have internet. I've been in my new classroom for just over a year, but haven't got round to checking out the website - I know, naughty me! - I have made up for it though! I just read every single post in this forum!

We're having a new school built, as our school lost about 50% in a fire a couple of years ago. Every class is going to be fitted with a Promethean board and AP. Phase 1 opens in January and we're getting 7 new boards, then Phase 2 will open with 12 new boards! I'm pretty sure I'm the only one using AP (and even the IWB) but I know that my knowledge barely scratches the surface of what AP can do. Apart from bombarding you all with my questions, is there any training I can get?

Also, I've been looking for simple 'game' style motivators to use with the children. A lot of promotional info features a 'blockbusters' game. I did a search and it only seems to be available for AS, is this true? Anyone else got any good ideas for a highly interactive motivating game format that can be adapted for any subject and topic? (Not asking for much, am I?!!)

Anyway, sorry for auch a long post, I'll be sure to check the forum more often, so I don't have such a backlog to catch up on!!

Hi Alison,

Welcome! :)

You won't believe how nervous I was when I put my first post up and now look at me I hardly have a life :D .

Training wise we offer comprehensive training support and I will forward this post to our Training Consultant who is Gill Leahy.

As far as motivating games go......

First of all, have you tried some of the Activities that are within the AP software. The icon with an AV on it which is underneath the "dancing man" on the toolbar at the side of the flipchart page. There are a considerable number housed within different curriculum areas. You don't say which KS you are teaching. There are also a considerable number of flipcharts that others have created that can be downloaded from here.

http://www.prometheanworld.com/uk/scripts/links_sql/page.cgi?g=UK_Resources%2Findex.html&d=1

Failing that, we have tried to offer a range of websites which you may find helpful. The ones listed under "Interactive sites" maybe a good starting point.

Hope this helps, however in the meantime, if you do have any queries which haven't been resolved by your "War and Peace" experience :D earlier this evening, then please post them. If you are asking a question there will always be someone else needing it answered too ;) .

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for your reply! Thanks also for passing my post on to Gill, I look forward to hearing from her. Yes, I've pretty much checked out every activity under the AV icon - well, all for KS1 anyway! I teach KS1, but I also look after all the ICT for the whole school!

Thanks for the link. I had checked it out a little, but it will be nice to be able to give it out to others! It's how I came to check out the site. I was doing my planning for RE, taught exclusively through ICT, and was looking to see if anyone had a ready made flipchart for festivals, so that I wouldn't have to think of one myself! :)

Am I being rubbish? I can't seem to find "interactive sites"!

By the way, somewhere in the forum was a post by a teacher so excited at the thought of using her IWB and AP that she wanted to go in to school in the wee small hours of the morning? Thought it would be nice for her to know that I first saw Promethean and AP at the BETT show, the day they launched AP. I was so excited to use it, but had to wait almost half a year until we had them fitted! I'd wake up excited about ideas to try out and then realise I had no IWB! Still, it was worth it in the end. I can't wait to get back in to school and download some of the flipcharts to try out! I'll have to see if I can figure out how to upload flipcharts. I was observed by the deputy at the end of half term and I spent a while setting up a flipchart on shapes. She was so impressed by what the board could do, she said she wished she had videoed the lesson to use as an example for the rest of the staff! And it was so simple! Thought I'd share it anyway though!

Hi again Alison

'Interactive sites' is to be found here - Choose Training and Resources - Resources - Online Resources - UK resources - Primary - Web links - and then you should see Interactive sites as one of the options.

Hope that makes sense - I expect some clever person will put in a direct link for you tomorrow!!

Hi Newbie and welcome!

You mentioned RE and festivals. If you give me an idea of what more specifically you are looking for, I'll see if I can help.

PS. Have you seen the church visit flipchart to download?

Cheers
Sharon

Hi Sharon!

I haven't seen the church flipchart yet, where would I find it?! I was planning RE for this half term and was looking for anything on festivals for this time of year. I was thinking of Christmas and the nativity in particular! Although anything on Eid would also be helpful! Thank you!

Hi Alison

Here is the link for the page on which the Church Visit flipchart can be downloaded.
http://www.prometheanworld.com/uk/scripts/links_sql/page.cgi?g=UK_Resources%2FFoundation___Key_Stage_1 %2FFlipcharts__Activities%2Findex.html&d=1

I'm presuming it's Id-ul-Fitr (the festival at the end of Ramadan) , not Id-ul-Adha that you're gong to do. If you send me one or two details about age and ideas you have, I'll have a think.

There's also a downloadable Nativity flipchart if you follow this link.

Hope this helps,
Sharon

Thank you Sharon!

Those two links were very useful. I've already saved the Nativity one! Is there a quick way to save flipcharts? I tried to save one, but then couldn't access it from AP. I ended up opening it and then saving it once I was in AP. Is that the best way?

Yes, it's Id-ul-Fitr that we're covering. The children are 6-7 years old and I thought we would just be looking at why it is celebrated and how. The children haven't really been introduced to it before. Last year I had some very knowledgable youngsters who basically taught the lesson for me! This year, it's down to me! We'll only have 1 lesson to spend on it, so I wasn't looking for too much depth!

I really appreciate all the help, thank you!

Hi Alison

When you download a flipchart, remember the folder that you save it to. Open AP, then click on Promethean Man. Click on the Open Flichart icon (2nd from the left) and that will take you to a new window. Within that window, look for the Windows icon - it will be on the right hand side next to an icon of two folders. If you click on that, it will enable you to decide which folder to open. Look for the folder where you downloaded your flipchart and click on it, then click on Open.

I'll have a think about Id tomorrow. If you click on my name in the postings, you should be able to send me an email with your email address - I can then send you a draft flipchart and then once complete (if it's any good that is) I'll post it in the resources for others to use.

Hi

I have a flipchart that I did once which is really a selection of photos of my local church put into a flipchart together with some text. This may be a good starting point for you  . Not sure why I haven't posted it before actually

I have attached it to this post along with some others. Well I thought I had!! Cliff I need your gifted and talented approach to support us lesser able mortals :( :(

In the meantime I have also put it up in the resource area.

Thank you all for your help!

Just to say Margaret that I looked at the link, but it didn't give me an option to download, so I couldn't see it! Hopefully I'll be able to soon though.

Thanks again!
