Hi

A good idea, a wants group.

A couple.

It would be great to have a set of alignment tools. Align top, left etc.. and 'make spacing equal' and the usual presentation tools. I know snap to grid is helpful but it isn't perfect.

A scientific calculator would be useful, built into activstudio rather than the rather lack lustre one in place at the moment!

Lots of maths teachers have asked me about a scientific calculator - it would REALLY be helpful

OK, I know there are many online, but will put in a product enhancement request.

Hi Paul

I have attached a one page flipchart showing you where you can access different resources. Well worth a long browse. (Take a mug of coffee over it!) :)
Enjoy!! {}

I wouldn't call that a scientific calculator. Is it possible to have one with at least COS; TAN; SIN; X^y buttons? Please?

I've found a solution for the lack of a scientific calculator, use the one supplied by Microsoft

1. Customise your toolbox via the menu
2. Add a user defined button (it looks like a button from a keyboard with a question mark on it.)
3. The button will appear on the toolbox. Right click it and you'll get the Keystroke Definer window.
4. Click the Program/File button and add Calc.exe in the box provided.
5. Click the OK button and a new calculator button will appear in the toolbox.

This enables you to open Microsofts calculator easily.
Unfortunatly when you go back to the flipchart the calculator disappears, simply press the Alt and Ctrl buttons at the same time to flick back to it. :-/

As previously indicated you can add any Windows Calculator to the AS toolbar, you can also add Equation Editor too... This is found in Microsoft > Shared Files - just drag the icon to the toolbar.

There are also quite a few free calculators online.

I have also just made a basic whiteboard friendly one in FLASH... so you can embed it in page using version 2.5 or add it to the toolbar. This is just meant as a free utility to sho the use of FLASH with AS and will not exhibit the automatic paste to page features of the current Promethean calculator - but I have made it so you can at highlight the number and right click it to copy / paste.

X ^ Y was in there but I think the code was suspect so I have taken it out for now... It has Sin, Cos, Tan Pi, LogE, and a basic memory function.

Mark

When I save this target onto my desktop, windows is not seeing it as a flash file and therefore will not open it - am I missing something

If you do not have the FLASH development software a FLASH file (.swf) may not work when clicked on the desktop.

In most instances you can use the option to associate the swf with internet explorer or similar to 'play' it. Right click its icon and choose "Open With" - you can then set it to always open with that application.

In ACTIVstudio 2.5 you can also embed the calculator into the flipchart page itself.

Right click the flipchart then choose "Insert Link Object" - check placeholder and click OK.

You can then make the calculator an object in the page.

If you want a reusable interactive calculator, then simply drag the embedded calculator to the library.

The FLASH calculator is not intended to be a replacement for a full calculator program, but offers some nice facilities such as round, random, etc.

Standalone flash players do exist, I've attached version 7 of the macromedia stand alone flash player.

But as Mark said, associating the file with internet explorer (or whatever browser you use) will work.

Mark,

Just added the calculator to a flipchart page (in 2.5) - great stuff!
I know maths teachers who are going to love you!!!!! (doesn't mean they will stop asking for other stuff!)
