Has anybody used "NETOP SCHOOL" successfully in conjunction with ActivStudio and ActivBoard in a classroom setting with about 32 students with 32 student laptops in a wireless network environment?

For those who are not aware, Promethean has software that does this.

OneClass from Promethean does all this. Remote Control, blank screens on demand, annotate a student's work, share files, etc, It has the market leading peformance and maintains its performance better than any other similar application as more computers are used. We tried to focus on creativity and effective groupworking as much as the monitoring and management functions.

The annotation options allow you to use the Activpen to highlight the students' work or applications on the Activboard or on their computer - which makes it ideal for peer review type tasks or for group instruction.

It also has a true "internet block" - some programs just block certain programs like IE - OneClass disables all web connectivity on a student machine. You can also stop or control specific programs. It has quiz options too.

Also for security it cannot be uninstalled by a user, cancelling using CTRL/ALT/DELETE as you can with others does not stop it- and the application will restart itself even if a student manages to delete the files.

I am going to have to run this by my principal in the morning! We just bought a few new computers, and I think this will be a perfect solution for our new Tech Lab :)...

If funding becomes an issue, ITALC is a free, opensource software that does most of the same things, great for sharing work and classroom management.

My lab was set up with NetOp before it was set up with Promethean. :D
We are just now working out the bugs in our system - the Promethean installation, not NetOp. I will have to let you know how it works out, but NetOp has some issues if you are running programs that take a lot of processing power. My lab is a CAD lab, so we are running AutoCAD 2007, Architectural Desktop 2007, and Inventor 11.
The computers only have 1 GB of RAM and can get bogged down when I try to demonstrate from the teacher's computer. However, if you are using this software in a typical core curriculum classroom I don't see any problems occurring. Drop an email my way if you need any more information. +wave+
I and another teacher with the same classroom configuration haven't experienced any problems with NetOp and Promethean (remember, I just recieved my board and he just recieved his about a month ago).[clap]

With OneClass can you demonstrate to the student workstations? Meaning can you cause the student work station to replicate the teacher's monitor?

That's my understanding.

I would imagine the teacher could "broadcast" his/her screen to selected computers (or all) in the room. This would over-ride anything that they were working on (classroom management!). when the demonstration is over, he/she would "release" the computers and they could continue what they were working on.

Additionally, applications like this can typically "grab" another screen. Say a student found something interesting on a web-page and you want everyone to see it. The teacher would take control of that computer from his/hers and the students would see it on the Activboard.

I'm sure there are other useful applications of software like this.

Thank you for the reply. When you say imagine - does that mean you are guessing what the program can do, or have you used the program? I have NetOp and am wondering if OneClass can do the same things.

I have not used OneClass myself but similar applications.

I think you can get a full "spec" sheet here if you click on this link:

Promethean OneClass is a very comprehensive program:

It differentiates itself by:

- market leading performance over networks compared with other similar software. So large number of laptop/PCs can be used and still keep screen refresh rates high

- pen/highlighting functionality ideal for Activboard/Activpen

- Quiz/Poll and file sharing - with a drop box for lesson outputs and work files

- Runs in a compact mode so it does not distract from classteaching with flipchart, etc.

- Total internet lock (all web activity is stopped on a target student computer - others only prevent the web browser playing) This prevents determined students using widgets and other web applications to get online.

- High Security - cannot be uninstalled from client machines, and will restart itself automatically even if the application is stopped by CTRL/ALT/DEL unlike some other programs

- Exceptionally easy setup compared with competition. Only the teacher's computer needs a license to activate - the clients can be installed easily on the student computers. Making it ideal for roving laptops and accommodating student owned computers

Promethean has done its best to develop a solution that is more than a computer lab management application - and provide features that allows a teacher to get creative with laptops in conjunction with the Activboard in day to day classroom situations as well.

The potential to harness student creativity is normal teaching (rather than teaching of IT skills in a lab) is enormous when laptops and Activboards are combined.

I've passed it on to the product manager...

I really like the comment that it is INCREDIBLE!

But let's see if we can sort those issues out for you.

Hi Connie

Yes Oneclass allows the teacher to broadcast their screen to all or selected student screens. It also allows the teacher to display any of the student screens.
