error message 5000

I am using actov stidio iwth macos X, an dwhen I use the marque tool to sselct text which I want o tmove i get an error 5000 message, it is preceeded by a hash. Anyone got any suggestins. We also have aproblelm with handwriting recognition - we don;t have an inkwelland can only change handwriting to text once!!
