According to the Help file, the Object Edit properties dialogue box should enable you to change the begin or end style of a line - eg. to square, rounded, arrow. Having drawn a line and called up that dialogue box, my menu doesn't give me this facility. My Appearance dialogue box gives me Layer, Translucency, Visible, Reflected, Inverted, Pen type and Pen Width and colour. That's all.
Is this something that will be in AS2 DE rather than PE?

This isn't a property for a hand drawn line. A hand-drawn line is classed as an annotation.
If you open the resource library and go to shared resources there is a lines folder in there.
If you add one of those lines to the page and view the properties this option will be available.

just remembered an exception to this rule!!
if you've hand-drawn a line using the ruler then you can change the begin and end styles of this line
