tool for calling on students?

I cannot remember where I saw a feature that I wanted to use. It was a 'pencil cup' that could randomly call on students that would be displayed on the Promethean board. Does anyone know where I could find that tool?:confused:

There have been many threads on the forum for randomly generating student names. I did a forum search using the word "random" and found several useful threads.

Otherwise do what I did and search the forums for "random" :)

I have a flipchart (see attached) with directions on how to make a pencil cup. Making it was a request from a group of teachers giving an inservice on the Activboard to show teachers some new uses for it. We put the teachers' names in the cup. I made the flipchart in version 2.5; it should be easier to do in 3.0 because of the new grouping tool.

Sure... go ahead and use the name cup. Scott has some good ideas also using the random name generator.

Here is a random name cup that I made so I could call on students. You would just have to change the children's names to your students. I created it so the student's nor I could see which name I was pulling out. When I am finished I just hit reset page, and all of the names go back inside the cup. Every couple of weeks I pick a student to re-arrange the names in the cup and save it as a new file. This way the kids can't remember whose name is where, and it truly does stay random.

I played around with your cup and just modified it slightly. Doing it with a trackball and not a pen means that the freehand camera snapshot tool use is not brilliant... BUT thought the names seemingly coming out of the middle of the cup was perhaps a slight improvement???+wave+

I use my Grade Machine Program everyday with the activboard. Not sure if your using a grading program that has a seating chart. When my students walk in to class the seating chart is on the board for attendance and I can mark them tardy if they are late. (Which helps to get them to class on time.) It also has a random pick for each student. I make a new seating chart (random draw) weekly and they just walk in and sit so I don't need to read off names.
