My K-5 music classroom will have a Promethian board. Any suggestions for good software for music classrooms? Thanks!

Have you checked the resource library yet? If you search the keyword "music", you wil find many resources that might give you some ideas. I am not a music teacher, so I don't have much background knowledge on what you would be teaching, but there are scales and notes that you could use when teaching reading sheet music, as well as pictures of instruments that you could use. Maybe find some sounds (either that you record, or I am sure there are some you could find online) and have the students guess which instrument is making the sounds. Also, check the planet to see if there are any flipcharts already submitted that you could use for ideas by using the keyword search - here is a link (http://www.Prometheanplanet.com/us/server/?search_word=music&catId%5B1%5D%5B%5D=&catId%5B2%5D%5B%5D=&show=nav.1226&contentType=conResource&catId%5B0%5D%5B%5D=185&submit=Search) to check out.

Good luck:-/

Also, don't forget to search for flipcharts on Promethean Planet. I just went to the US site and searched by keyword "music" and found 32 flipcharts. There are also some nice resource packs that you can download that are music oriented!

Hi Lisa
The Musican software is excellent in conjunction with the activ boards. It is out of Ireland and is available in North America through Strategic Transitions. You can e-mail me at john.grasshopper@gmail.com if you are interested.[clap]

Don't forget to use the free "Finale NotePad" for both Mac & Windows.

I've been using the Promethean Board in my music classroom for two years and have built up a large amount of music objects, vocabulary, flipcharts, anotations specific to my districts Music Curriculum. I have scanned the KDG and 1st grade book and Listening Maps in order to help them see how to track music or show certain content up front on the Activboard. I use "Spotlight on Music" by MacMillan/McGraw-Hill.

Everyday with every class I build a flipchart with my lesson plans. It is AWESOME! I didn't have enough money to buy the ActivVotes so I use our CPS system (I have 2 in the building) to do ALL of my assessments that come with our curriculum. The ActivVotes are the next WANT on my wishlist.

If you need any more ideas or flipcharts just email me.

Sibelius Groovy Music is great, I accredited it last month, not sure if it is available in the US though, here is a link to the products on the sibelius website you might be able to find out here.

http://www.sibelius.com/products/groovy/index.html

There are three titles:

Groovy Shapes for ages 5-7
Groovy Jungle for ages 7-9
Groovy City for ages 9-11

They are really visual and look great on the whiteboard.

Sonya, I know you wrote this post quite some time ago, but I'm hoping you may be able to help me. I purchased Groovy over the summer on the recommendation on this forum. LOVE it! I spent some time prepping to use it as a major part of my music curriculum this year. I received a brand new Promethean board this August - a 300 Pro. Problem is, every time I launch Groovy on my computer, the Promethean stops recognizing the pen - I can't even calibrate. The laptop (Mac) works fine, but the kids can't interact with the board at all. I am piloting this for my district and would LOVE to be able to use it. Any suggestions?? Thanks so much, Shawna.

Most of my music friends have smart boards. I know Promethean is superior to these but the programs created for smart boards seem to be in abundance. there are many publications that have things you can download for smart board. I am going to come workshops on smart board at the music convention in San Antonio in February. Is there any way to transfer some of these smart board creations to Promethean?

Not sure what you mean by made for Smartboard. If it works on a computer it WILL work on the Activboard. In fact they will often work better.

If they are SMARTnotebook files - then you can import those into the Promethean software.

Can you provide some examples?
