Hi all

Apoligies for the question if it hs already been covered. I understand from documentation that flipcharts won't allow animated gifs. Does anyone know of a work around for this? I thought of trying to get it to open in the browser but haven't been able to do so.

Any help appreciated.

regards

animated gifs can be displayed on a flipchart.

Do a search for "gas laws" on the resource...and yu will find a flipchat authored by me.
Has at least 4 animated gifs embedded in it. Works fine.

Hi saha, that's an amazing flipchart!

Like the first poster, I've never got a .gif to work in a flipchart except by embedding a powerpoint file.

I've compared the Properties & Actions of your animations with my attempts: the only difference appears to be in the Appearance window, where you have two tick boxes 'start automatically' & 'loop' which I don't have as options. Obviously you've ticked these to get the animation going, but where did you get these options from, please? (There's a third tick box 'video controller' which I don't have either.)

I've searched in Studio Settings, without success. Many thanks.

Hi there,
I used the latest version of activstudio on a pc platform.
Version 3 with the latest update.

can you check to see what version you are using.
Let me know if it still does not work for you.

Hi again!

Thanks for the feedback folks. Thanks to the two of you I think I haved solved the mystery...at least partly.

Animated gifs cannot be pasted directly into a flipchart according to the help documentation I've read. HOWEVER, if you insert it as a 'placeholder' you will get to see it as a video file. If you embed it like this then you do get the 'loop', 'start automatically' etc options that have been pointed out above.

The only problem I have now is that the movie created from the gif does not play at a normal speed...must have to try and slow it down somehow.

I'd like to see the next version support animated gifs a little more easily.

regards
Greg

saha, I have V3 fully updated, that's why I was so amazed at your flipchart.

Greg, yes, you've solved it, my animated skeleton is waving his arms and legs around just as he's meant to! Thank you so much.

In design mode, the image (copied from an animation .gifs website) looks really odd, but it is perfect in presentation mode, I've just had to resize it; the speed is fine, but that's not crucial in my case!

Thank you both very much for your help. Do post if you manage to reduce the speed of yours, Greg.

Thanks for the instructions on putting in an animated gif using the video placeholder. I tried it, and was very excited that it worked. One thing I noticed, however, was the background of the animation became white instead of see-through (as it is if I pasted the gif into another program). This was a little bit of a drag, since I wanted the image to blend in with the colored backround of my flipchart. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this can be changed (other than making my background white :)). Thanks in advance.

Mr. B.

Hi there
I guess the gif loses the properties of being a gif when it is in a video placeholder and the transparent background feature is lost :(

Is there any way to get rid of the control bar at the bottom of the gifs. I have 2 in this flipchart and the control bar is displaying under the 2nd one but not the first!! Want to try to sort this before posting on the resources. Thanks

See if this version works better for you.

I reinserted then files as video placeholder and unchecked the show player option.
