I've tried to slim down the container instructions to the minimum. Here goes:
1. Put two items on the page.
The bigger item will be the container.
The smaller item will be contents.
(Note: Make sure they are on the same layer; Make sure the smaller item is above the other one (Edit>To front)
2. Container
Double-click on the container.
Select the Properties icon in the Object Edit toolbox.
Select Containers in the Properties and Actions box.
From the ‘Can contain’ drop-down box, select Specific Object.
A ‘Select an Object’ box appears. Move your cursor on the list and select the contents.
3. Contents
Select the contents, make sure the Properties and Actions box is still open.
Select ‘Return if not contained’
Close the Properties and Actions box.
You’ve finished!
Try NOT moving the contents to the container. It should return to its original place.
Multiply this technique up for every container on the page.
Hope that works, happy to (try to) help a bahama mama!
Thank you for the advice. I will try it. Thanks again for helping this Bahama Mama
i have tried yor suggestions but nothing happens. Do I have to be in design mode or not necessary?
You need to be in design mode to set the actions etc and then presentation mode to try it out and make sure it works!

Can the container have several items. For example, I am working on a bubble map and need for the container to accept several correct answers. I can make it work with only one correct answer. HELP PLEASE. THANKS

In properties and actions, in the Identification field, give each object you want to contain a keyword. Then set the container to contain Keywords. List the keywords. It should work.

So glad I came across this. Thanks to all. I have been getting frustrated trying to get containers to work! I also am having trouble getting consistent results for multiple objects in one container. Any hints?

Hey, if you set the container for keywords instead of specific object and put the same keyword on the objects you want contained, it should work. I'm new to containers myself. I hope this helps.

I think you have to have version 3 to do containers.
Lisa
Hi MrsB,
Unfortunately you do have to have version 3 to be able to make the most of the containers. However, the good news is, you can download it for free!
If you are in the UK click here (http://www.prometheanworld.com/uk/server/show/nav.2785)
If you are in the US click here (http://www.prometheanworld.com/us/server/show/nav.2806)

I've only been able to get it to accept one item in a container. If this isn't the case, please enlighten me!!

Hi Char,
You should be able to make a variety of objects be contained. The quickest way to do this is by giving all the objects you want contained the same keywords (as sdryer suggests). I have attached an example for you. Basically, only the descibing words will be contained, in the properties/identification menu I have given these words a keyword 'describing' then I have told the container to only allow objects with the keyword 'describing'.
Hope that makes some sense!

The containers are working fine I've created - but, I'd like to have the container as a top layer so the items look like they are actually going into the container. The return if not contained action is working fine even after I change the layer properties, but the reward sound has quit working - any thoughts on how to make this work? Thank you!

Make sure the reward sound is attached to the container rather than the object.
The container object can be in the middle layer and the container top cover in the top layer and the two objects grouped.
Example attached.

Hi all
I found the instructions on how to do containing in the forum and think I have followed the instructions....HOWEVER, I can't get the actual objects to appear.
for example, on the attached flipchart I was trying to simply match the 'word' to the 'colour'. I nmade sure they were all on the same layer and brought the text items to the front....but when I go into the properties of the actual colours, it does not provide the option to contain anything.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong please.

I don't believe annotations can serve as containers. If you had a blue object or red object, etc., they would work. Like this.... I changed your flipchart.

I have been trying the container instructions, and go out of design mode to try and still no luck? I am just working with shapes and names. Trying to move a shape name over the right shape. If it is not correct I want it to not stay there? Any suggestions?
Hi there,
You need to ensure that the shape is bigger than the word, otherwise it will not contain.
I have made a quick example to show you what I mean. The words will only contain in the correct shape, except for the triangle, it cannot be contained anywhere as the triangle shape is too small to contain the whole word. If you resize the triangle it will contain correctly.
Hope the flipchart helps.

Hi,
You can make anything a container, choose any shape or image and then go into the properties menu and select the container tab.

Yes it is a wonderful feeling when you get these things to work!!! I have made a chart using the 3 pigs from the resources (a logic type one with clues) and have got the reward sound working when the right pig is put in his house. . . . but we always want more don't we!!!
Is it possible to also have a "non reward" sound when they get it wrong. (I thought the wolf howling would be a good one)
Any advice would be appreciated????
Thanks
Hi Caryn,
At the moment I don't think it is possible to have a non reward sound. I played around with the idea that if you used the snap back feature then you could have a hidden box underneath the snap back position that would then trigger a sound (so it appeared that there was a non reward sound). However, my many attempts at this have not been successful ... yet!

What is the "match center" selection enable you to do with containers?
davidlloyd
09-08-2007, 01:59 PM
The 'match centre' in containers wants the centres of both the contents and the container to match before the contents will be contained. This takes precision when moving the contents!

Hello Helen
You haven't put the keyword in the Identification area of the properties of 'Bonjour'. Basically whatever keyword you put on the container, has to be included in the keyword list in the Properties of all the objects you want that container to contain.
Be a little careful of what keyword you use. It might have been better to use the keyword 'French' if there's more than one right answer. So for example if I were sorting for the colours 'blue' I could have all sorts of objects with the keyword 'blue'. In other words the keyword doesn't have to be the name of the object.
I hope this is clear.
bjstuckey
21-08-2007, 04:29 PM
Hi. The reason that Bonjour won't stay contained is that in properties identification, it is listed as text6. You can either change the triangle to contain text6 (i believe that's how it's listed) or you can change the word Bonjour's identification to Bonjour. Hope this helps!

Be aware you can always add new words to the keyword list of any object. Which means the keyword doesn't have to relate directly to the object, allowing you more flexibility. So if you want to sort an object which doesn't have your keyword in it, just add it.

I have tried three times to follow the directions below and it still isn't working! I am somewhat tech savvy and I am FRUSTRATED...how is a teacher who is not tech savvy going to learn how to do this??!?!?!?!?
I've tried to slim down the container instructions to the minimum. Here goes:
1. Put two items on the page.
The bigger item will be the container.did this first
The smaller item will be contents.
(Note: Make sure they are on the same layer; I did
Make sure the smaller item is above the other one (Edit>To front) I did but why I thought they were supposed to be on the same layer or is one floating over the other in the same layer...so is there really more than bottom layer/middle layer/top layer?
2. Container
Double-click on the container.
Select the Properties icon in the Object Edit toolbox.
Select Containers in the Properties and Actions box.
From the ‘Can contain’ drop-down box, select Specific Object.
A ‘Select an Object’ box appears. Move your cursor on the list and select the contents. did all this in the order listed above several times
3. Contents
Select the contents, make sure the Properties and Actions box is still open.meaning the container properties box right?
Select ‘Return if not contained’
Close the Properties and Actions box. You’ve finished!
Try NOT moving the contents to the container. I did and it stayed in the container. It should return to its original place.
Multiply this technique up for every container on the page.
Hope that works, happy to (try to) help a bahama mama!
I switched to design mode and still no go.

Re: "You’ve finished!

The instructions ask you NOT to move the contents to the container. Try dragging the contents to anywhere BUT the container. It should return to its original location, showing that containers are working. Only the container will stop the contents moving back to the original location - so your container, from the sounds of it, actually worked!?
Hope that makes sense?

You're right - you can't have annotations as containers or assign any other action to them.
If you're keen on having your annotations available as an object that you can set actions on or use as container etc, use the camera tool to take a photo of it and add it to your flipchart page.:)

You can create a container to accetable multiple objects.
Double Click your container and click properties (the red check)
Click Container
Set to "Can Contain Keywords"
Type what keyword will be applied to the objects that are to be contained. For example, if you want the container to hold only prime numbers, you would type prime.
click on one of the objects you want to be contained and open the properties for that object.
click on "identification"
You should see a text box for keywords, type the keyword that identifies that object i.e. prime.
Do that for each object you want to contain.
If you want the objects to snap back if they are not contained, you should set them to "return if not contained as well".Hope this helps.

As posted by Simon - this is a basic slimed down instruction for containers
In design mode
Move your cursor on the list and select the contents.3. Contents
Select the contents, make sure the Properties and Actions box is still open.
Select ‘Return if not contained’
Close the Properties and Actions box.

I am having problems with the latest containers I made. I dragged three squares to the page, and six images of art work. The students are to drag the correct style of art to the container labeled with the style (ex., surrealism, etc.) I set my squares to contain the keyword for whatever style the image is, and typed that keyword in the identification of the image. Problem is, when I try it in presentation mode, ALL of the images return from the containers, even when they are dragged to the correct one. I set all of the images to "return if not contained", but not the containers. I've done this to at least 5 other flipcharts, but it's not working!!!! HELP!

Hi,
Could you post the flipchart here and let us have a look...?
Thanks...!
Here's the page from my flipchart. I had it set up at first with the paintings each identified with a keyword, and set the containers to recognize the keyword. That didn't work, so I set it up to accept a specific object and selected each appropriate painting - that's not working either! Any help would be appreceiated! I've made containers before, but NEVER had this much trouble!!
Thanks,

You can have the container accept multiple items by selecting key words for what the container will accept and then define what that key word is. The important part though is to remember to assign the key word to the object that you want contained as well.
There has been prior discussion on this which should show up with a search on key words.
I can explain further if needed!

When I opened your flipchart the container images were locked on the page. I've unlocked them and put the to the back of the stack and it works fine now.
