Hello all,

When showing students how to use the software's ruler and protractor, use the Page Zoom tool to focus in on particular parts of them, so that even the student at the back of the class can see the measurements clearly...

Hope that's useful...

How do you make the most of the Page Zoom tool in lessons?

My best tip is to remember how to get back to "normal" view. I used to right click but zoom back out but found that a quick "double-click" on the board will take you back to normal 100%.

I also love that you can still write on the board when it is zoomed.

Finally, I love that you can "pan" around the image while zoomed by dragging the image left and right.

One of the ways I have used it recently was to have a character "hiding" on top of a hill - I had reduced this character to a tiny dot - it was actually the "Turkey who lives on the hill" and the teachers had to tell me if they knew who had married the Owl and the Pussycat..... Being able to do such fun things would be so easy and could easily be part of an everyday starter.... recognising something, revising something, looking at something...

Margaret,

I love your idea about "hiding" your character and then zooming to reveal him.

A similar idea:

Since CSI (crime scene investigation) is such a popular TV show in the US now, you could try the same type of thing by creating a scenario on a flipchart page that kids have to solve (doesn't have to be crime, though). Plant small clues around and when they zoom on that area, it reveals a clue that helps them solve the bigger problem.

Here's my page zoom tip -

If you start with a reasonable size image and then using the pick up handles make the image size small, when you zoom in the image won't be all pixelated and you'll be able to read info etc.

The attached page is an illustration of this. - Another related tip - if you like this page and want to customise it for your own use then simply add the whole page to your library. (right click on page and have appropriate section of your library open.)

Thank you for this wonderful tip and attached flipchart page. I'm planning on using it this morning for training, but will substitute your postcard with one of San Antonio. ;)

That is a lovely idea. But what connection does the Famous Grouse have with Blackpool? Or did Barnaby visit Scotland as well or does he just like a tipple? :D :D

Just to add to this tip...
A similar thing happens with text. When creating Page Zoom exercises, therefore, It's best to create the text at full size, take a snapshot of it, then reduce the 'snapshotted text' in size.
Then you'll be able to read the text with no problems when you focus in on it with the Page Zoom tool.

using this technique, students can focus in on the next clue to a puzzle, etc..

Does he just like a tipple?

Yes I think so David- I did think about hiding all sorts of contraband in his case (or even in him) but didn't want to disturb our 6 and 7 year olds too much!

I use the zoom tool to drag the page up (without having to change the page length). It saves bending down to write at the bottom of the whiteboard)!

(can't remember if I saw this idea somewhere on the forum - sorry if I've stolen someone's idea)

This is especially interesting if you set your "world colour" to white. It looks like the flipchart page never ends!
