Ever wanted to obtain an image of a set of open menus whilst at the Activboard?

For example you click the Windows Start Button. You would like to capture an image of this menu into a flipchart, so you select the Camera Tool on the main Activstudio toolbox but the Start menu closes in the meantime.

This is feature of Windows in that once a menu looses focus it automatically closes.

In Activstudio Settings --> Right Button, select Start Camera Tool. Set the delay to 3 seconds.

Now open the Windows Start menu again. This time, right click anywhere over the menu and hold the right click for 3 seconds. The camera tool will automatically start and will capture the screen, including the currently open menu allowing you to area snap it.

At the risk of being jumped on for offering another alternative to this method (and one that only really works at the desktop unless you have quick access to your keyboard). You can also open the menu and hold down ctrl and press print screen, then paste into your flipchart. I like the ctrl alt print screen option too which just takes the particular menu you are on as opposed to the whole screen.

I use this method a lot when creating training flipcharts.

I use this on a mac a lot too!

Command+shift+3 grabs the whole screen
Command+shift+4 grabs an area you specify

The images are automatically saved as png files to the desktop and can be easily dragged and dropped onto the flipchart page!

I use this method a lot when creating training flipcharts.

Just for information, why don't you use the video capture and then embed the resulting video into a flipchart? At least this allows the trainee to see how you got to a particular option rather than having all the menus open.

I also use the camera tool to capture great ideas from the forum - sometimes there are so many that I know that I will forget so that is why I have made a flipchart called 'Ideas from the Forum'. :-/
