With the recent addition of the translucency slider on the toolbar in V3 means that being able to "expose" images slowly underneath another one is fantastic...

Lara's example here although old is a good example......

We have all got very hooked on the "magnifier" which although excellent is different!

Having a photograph of somewhere "now and then" and showing the differences by slowing revealing the other one has a terrific impact as it also gives that feeling of time moving on.....+wave+

Before we had the transparency slider in the toolbar, I duplicated the page, changed the present image to past (or past to present) on the duplicated page and set the page effect to dissolve. I created an action object to go from the first to the second page. I still like the effect that creates, but it is great to have the slider available on the toolbar!

I think this is a great way of obtaining a similar transparency effect - ideal for those who haven't yet updated to the latest software!

Margaret, I have Version 3.0.93 and can't find this translucency slider on either my toolbar or in the tool store. :( What am I missing? Thanks! ????

In AP the the translucency slider is not on the main tool bar. You need to be in design mode and double click on an object on the flipchart page. The toolbox will appear and the translucency slider is located there. See screen shot attached. I would imagine it is the same for AS.

Thanks for the quick reply, Lou. As you indicated, I was misinterpreting "tool bar" to mean the main tool bar. :)

Glad to help.

You don't actually need to be in design mode for the slider to be shown! Sorry was working from memory earlier.

I'd like to add to this discussion a description of a flipchart my area Promethean reseller rep shared of several reveal styles. The first was a series of objects with eraser that were not magnifying glasses they included regular eyeglasses, the headlamps of a car, a set of goggles, the eyes of a cat and other objects.
There was also a page on which several images of clouds had been layered over the primary image that the students were to guess. Each layer was then made transparent which allowed for a bit more of the main image to peek through. Along the way students could guess what the image was.
Lastly was a teacher teaching art and they used a checkerboard of squares over one of a series of paintings the students had been studying. By pulling off one of these squares at a time the students had to guess which painting was underneath.

Hi

These were a development on the magnifier and were developed by a teacher in the South East of England. If you search for Nadeem Qureshi in the forum you will find the source.....+wave+

If you are looking for a fun way to use the translucency slider, check out the lesson I posted at

I like to use the translucency when teaching rotation - duplicate a shape and make one of them slightly translucent, now stack on top of one another. Now when you rotate the shape (using the xy origin tool) the students can easily see where the shape was at the beginning (translucent shape) and then where the shape ended up (after a certain degree of rotation). :)

Marnie, that sounds like a cool lesson. Can you post it here? I would love to check it out. I don't have enough RAM in my mind to visualize it all! :-)

The translucency tool is great for map work too. When training I impose a map of the local area over the satellite image (usually from Google maps) the use the Translucency slide tool. Note that because of the way the camera tool works, the area selected will always be identical to the last are selected so switching form map mode to satellite image mode and snapshotting both is easy. The camera tool will also place each image directly on top of each other so there's no fiddling around.

I noticed when I clicked on your image that you are running ACTIVprimary 3. Do you know if this is available for MAC's yet?

I don't use the Primary version of the software...and don't see the slider. Can I get to it still? I know I can go to the properties/appearance/and adjust transparency there...but that is too much of a hassle to when trying to just fade into another picture. Any tips? Thanks

You can set up an action to make an object more translucent, the mor eyou click to object the more translucent it becomes,

check out Daniel Craig on this flipchart

If you have the latest version of the software you should see the Translucency slider in the Object Edit toolbox when you double-click on an object. I've circled it in pink on the attached picture.

You can also set items as actions for more or less translucency. There should be an Activtip that deals with this. It has some weather maps on it.
