In History lessons show pictures of key events then get students to draw links between them and explain how they think the events are linked. When you've got a few you can ask the whole group to activote which they think are the most important links

You can also put up a series of events in the wrong order and get students to put them into the order that they happened. Involve the rest by letting them add a running commentary on the ordering

Show a key source like a painting or a cartoon and get students to come up and circle parts of the painting or cartoon saying what they tell us about the source

Hello,
Really like these ideas, and think they will work particularly well in the eventual Top Tips booklet we are going to produce...

Although these ideas are specific to history lessons, I'm sure these tips would work in many subjects...

Anyone else any subject-specific ideas...?

There are lots of ways Oliver's ideas could be used: sequencing any processes - biology, chemistry, physics, geology, geography.

A group of pictures is great for developing discussions - characters in a play or novel and their relationships to each other; geographical features; anything where there's a common thread really.
