I'm having a problem with the highlighter tool. I have some text on the middle layer, a box to cover the text on the top layer, and a spyglass tool to show the answer after a student writes on top of the box. Everything I've described is working great.

What I'd like to do is highlight the key words in the "answer text" that is located on the middle layer. When I try, it isn't working, but the pen tool works fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Jen,

That seems strange - the highlighter width is not set to zero is it?

I think this is because you have effectively "covered" your text with the eraser and so you no longer have "access" to it. I am afraid you can't have it both ways, either you use the spyglass or you highlight   +wave+

As Margaret says, when you use highlighters, the lines you draw are put on the top layer, so will become invisible when using the spyglass...

A simple way to solve this is by moving the highlighter annotations to the middle layer.

Hope that helps,

As Simon suggests you could demote the highlighter objects to the middle layer.
You may also wish to have a 'stack' of pre-drawn highlighter lines already on the page (on the middle layer) that you can drag over the appropriate words as and when you need them.

If you have the straight-line option selected in the Pen Modifier menu (right-click on the Pen tool icon..) then you can create really tidy pre-drawn highlighter lines.
I have used a highlighter line like this to focus attention on the line in a poem that is being read aloud (sound file from an online collection - the poet reading their own work..) Move the highlighter line to the next line as the reading progresses.
