Does anyone know a way of using the tools of Activstudio with the Elmo Document Camera? ????

I have one (a document camera), and my thoughts are that you can't, since you are switching between the PC and the camera - they are not integrated. I used to have an Elmo, but got a better one, that takes pictures. I then import the pictures and use them with ACTIVstudio...

Sometimes the document camera will come with software that allows you to open a "live" window on your PC. This should show up on the board as well. If that is the case, you should be able to treat that application like any other one. (Use the Activstudio tools over it like the pen, highlighter, and the camera tool).

Otherwise, the document camera is bypassing the PC going directly to the projector and in that case, Activstudio (on your PC) won't be able to interact with the image "live."

Some doc cameras come with better software than others.

(Also, you have to have the doc camera ATTACHED to your PC- typically through a USB port.) Some doc cameras have this ability and some do not.

Hope that helps.

I was under the impression that if there is SOFTWARE for the document camera and the image being intepreted by the document shows up on the computer, then the Activ Studio tools SHOULD work... But I do not have a document camera to play with... What about Isequa, Washington? (I may have spelled Isequa wrong, sorry). They have document cameras and the Activ Board...

I use my document cameral routinely with Activ Studio.

I forget the brand . It was given to me as a gift by the Promethean reseller in USA.

Lets say that I am doing a worksheet in class that I do not have an electronic copy.

I put it under my document camera, launch the doc cam software.
Once the image shows up, I launch activstudio and then I go to desktop mode.
Then I can annotate and write on the doc cam image...as if it was an electronic document.

A problem arises with those cameras that 'plumb' straight into the digital projector; as they bypass the computer and so can't have anything 'done' to them. All they do is display and perhaps zoom.

The best solution is a doc camera that plumbs into the computer (ideally via usb) so that IWB software can be used in conjuction for annotation etc.

Yes, some document cameras are video cameras. The best ones are digital document cameras.

We recently purchased document cameras and when we load Media Player Classic, we can annotate with Activ Studio!
