Another question.....

Can anyone tell me why the following has happened? (see attached screenshot - I hope!)

Basically, I've opened up a flipchart made in a windows environment with MAC APrimary and have lots of this sort of code type stuff wherever I had typed text

Can anyone please ???? ???? ????

Thank you

Laura

I have had this too and I think its due to incompatible fonts between PC and MAC!

Try using a different font.

I think there's another thread somewhere in the forum about using fonts!

Hi Vicky

Well, my first thought was fonts but I was only using comic sans which my MAC does have..... and all that weird 'html' stuff? It was only ordinary text - it's the same for any text on any page :(

It's such a pain

It has happened to me as well. I thought it was the font issue but sometimes is will display several words but not others correctly even when they are in the same font originally. Very bizarre!

There is more to fonts than meets the eye! As it is possible to have the same font on the PC and Mac but they are constructed and handled in different ways so they can be unrecognisable on the other platform.

There are 3 types of font, PostScript, TrueType and OpenType. The latter - OpenType should be compatible on either platform, PostScript fonts are not compatible and I think TrueType is hit and miss (ie shows on screen but doesn't print properly or vice versa!)

The code you are seeing is all to do with the formatting of the text so whether Activprimary is handling it differently on either platform - I don't know.

I do some investigating!

Have spoken to our Mac guru Jos and he says that Activstudio for Windows supports two kinds of text format and the Mac only supports one.

So what you are seeing is the Unicode format that Activstudio for Mac doesn't support yet!

Apparently you can switch the Unicode format off on the PC in Activstudio Settings - Multiple language Text Edit Support.

Try doing this and see what happens!

Just realised I've been going on about Activstudio not Activprimary.
I should expect this setting to be in Activprimary's settings too.

Let me know if it isn't.

Apparently text objects produced with the option switched off will work okay.

If you just switch the option off the formatting will remain with the text objects already produced with the option on!

So on the PC, if you switch the option off, re-produce the text then open the flipchart on the Mac it should work.

If you only ever work in one language or any European language it is best if this is always turned off. Only turn it on if you are working in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.

Thank you for this information.

I did have it ticked on all my versions of AS and AP on my PC and now have unticked it.

I had the same trouble about 6 months ago - it is a bit of a pain if you have had it on and you switch it off as everytime you go to edit text in an old flpchart it will not allow you to unless you re-select that option. Perservere though, especially if you are going between MAC and PC on a regular basis!

Well, I have the same problem when trying to open an Activprimary 3 flipchart in Activprimary 2, so maybe there's more to it...
