View Full Version : Using restrictors in V3

Hi all,
I've been having a play with the restrictor properties now available in V3. I particularly liked the option of having the pen follow a path, and thought this would be so useful for handwriting.
I've attached a quick example if anyone is interested. To get the pencil to sit in the right place, I took a picture of it using the camera tool, but leaving enough space diagonally opposite the pencil to make the pencil lead the centre of the image. (When you click on the pencil you'll see what I mean).

Cheers,
Wendy

Thanks Alison, it's so easy to do as well. :) (We are still on holiday here so lots of time for playing!)
What I do need help with it rotating images. Can anyone tell me how to make an image so it will only rotate when you click on it, instead of having to grab the rotate handle?

Cheers,
Wendy.

PS I went shopping for the new school year yesterday, first time since I've had my Activboard. When I looked at lots of the (expensive) hands-on resources, I kept thinking 'I could make that' (on the board). So my purse still has something in it.:)

Wendy that is so good! Those of us back at Blackburn in the gale force wind and driving rain are very impressed [clap] [clap] [clap]
By the way why are you playing with AP and shopping when you have all that wonderful sunshine to take advantage of? Or is it a case of too much of a good thing?

Hi David, +wave+
Dragging myself away from V3 tomorrow for a day of golf (forecast: sunny, 24 degrees). Still, I'm sure Blackburn is lovely this time of year too.:p

In case anyone else is trying it, I worked out the rotate only thing in restrictors - after setting something to rotate, change the 'can move' from 'freely' to 'no'.

Cheers,
Wendy

"Can anyone tell me how to make an image so it will only rotate when you click on it, instead of having to grab the rotate handle?"

Set the object's 'Can move' property to 'No'. (one of the 'Restrictor' properties). Now it will only rotate.

Also if you set 'Can rotate' to 'Clockwise', then it will only rotate one way and not the other.

Wendy. You beat me to it !

Aah, it's because we are solar-powered over here - that's what makes us so fast:)

Inspired by Wendy, here's another idea with restrictors.
I used a maze, and the button/image/object follows the path of the maze.

Have been following your posts Tomas, I am impressed with your ideas and ability with the V3 Actions and restrictors.

BUT - what is E-Prime?

This has nothing to do with Activstudio or any other Promethean product, but I admire your curiosity, so I'll provide a short answer.
An idea that Alfred Korzybski, a proponent of General Semantics, established in his book "Science and Sanity" in 1933. Later, his student David Bourland, Jr. continued to develop the concept. It "is" a reformulation of the English language, in which most instances of the verb "to be" are removed to, for example, facilitate understanding of other people's ideas, as well as limiting Aristotelian essentialism, which states everything as yes/no.
If you find this interesting, this might help (a teacher's point of view):

"to be" or not "to be" that is the question....

Shakespeare was onto this one a long time ago :)

Posted this in V3 parameters earlier.
Restrictors explored.
"follow path" vs "block"

Interesting!
No need to make the path translucent, just untick the Visible check box inthe Appearance section.

Cheers Peter. I didn't think of that. The "visible" check box would be preferable, as it shows the path in design mode then. Good point.

Glad to help, though I think you will be telling me things I don't know soon! :D
