I got very bored the other night, and made a flipchart of all the available text fonts in ActivStudio, just so I could have a reference to look at when making a flipchart. Would it be worth me uploading it to the resources? Would anybody else find it useful?

(just don't tell me it's already available somewhere in AS!)

Yes, I would love to see all the fonts that are available and what they look like! I have a hard time remembering which fonts I have installed and which ones are a part of the program.

This would be great to see the fonts, I have become so boring, I hit the Text symbol and don't bother any further!!!!!!

Thanks for time and effort,

Hi People,

I think you will find that all the available fonts are all the available fonts within your system.

When you click on the down arrow, it lists all that are installed on your system. To find the fonts available in your system go to control panel.

I hope I am right!

Hi 101325
(It seems odd talking to a number, not a name!)

Thanks for offering to share your work with us, but I'm really sorry, I'm not going to show your flipchart submission on the Planet. The fonts that you have on your machine may not be available on other users machines. Activstudio uses all the fonts installed on the local machine. In the case of your flipchart - your fonts are the ones you see. Other users may not have those fonts.
This also raises an issue to those who are thinking about submitting, or have submitted flipcharts to Promethean Planet. If fonts have been used by the donor that are fonts that the receiver doesn't have on their machine, font substitution takes place and often this leads to poor font spacing. The receiver will need to change those fonts to a system font such as Arial or Times New Roman.
If you are going to submit a flipchart top the Resources section please use standard Windows or Mac fonts. If in doubt use Arial, Verdana, Courier or Times New Roman.

Just sticking my oar in here - from research we did as TLA's in the UK, Century Gothic is the clearest font to use from a visual perspective and it's available on most machines. Dear old Comic Sans is another good one. Times New Roman is really difficult for children to read.

Totally agree. As someone who works with very young children and EAL, Times New Roman is one of the worst fonts to use....I hate it too!

From a designers perspective I wouldn't use more than 2 fonts on the same page anyway as using more can tend to get a bit messy!

But its always handy to have a visual representation of fonts available just for reference!

Ah well.. probably have something else soon, in the careers education area.

On the subject of fonts, I remember reading that the most 'serious' font, is Courier, it looks like old typewriter letters.
I know that the kids find Comic Sans easy to deal with but I hate getting memos etc from colleagues in Comic Sans, maybe I feel I'm being talked down to?
My favourite is Baskerville, though I think it is a typeface and not a font.

Oooer a bit techie there! What is the difference between a typeface and a font? I have no idea

I think the difference between a font and a typeface is that the font is a collective family style and the typeface is specific to the characters ie, size, boldness, italics etc. But it is easy to mistake them for one and the same thing!

BTW I used to work for a printers and my boss always told us the correct spelling for font was "FOUNT"! How very British!
