Hey this is probably going to be straight forward for all you promethean experts out there but I was wondering how I embed music and sounds into the flipcharts. In particular is it possible to have a piece of music which can run through all the pages in a flipchart?

Thanks!

Hi

Not sure if you are using ACTIVprimary or ACTIVstudio - but this is how I would do it in AP (it may well be similar in AS but I don't know!).

To embed a sound file within an object -

Make sure you are in Design Mode.
Place the object that you want to embed the sound in on the f/c page.
Double click on the object and choose object properties (icon on far right).
Choose Actions from the new window.
Click on the small pointing down arrow in the actions box and choose Play Sound.
Click on Set.
Navigate through your folders and files until you find the sound file you want.
Click on it and select open. The sound should now be embedded in your object - done! :D Don't forget to come out of design mode to be able to play your sound.

There are other ways to link sounds to objects and if this is not quite what you're after please say and we'll see if we can help in a different way.

Regarding can you pay a particular piece of music all the way through several pages on a f/c - the answer is yes if the music is long enough or you could tick the repeat box on the sound controller window that should appear when you start your sound and then the sound will keep going foreverrrrrrrr!

Hope that helps

Hello,
Yes Sarah's description of putting a sound in Activprimary will work for Activstudio too. With one difference: there's no Design Mode in Activstudio 2.5 so you can ignore the first step.

To switch the link to your sound on and off in Activstudio you would right-click on the page and select/deselect Enable Actions. You only have to worry about this, however, once the sound is on the page.

You can also use midifiles with Activ sound functions. If you have a decent sound card they can sound very good. They are also a tiny, tiny fraction of the size of an audio file - 5 - 15K!!!!!

They are ideal for background music - and kids can make their own with many pieces of eductaional music software or hardware.

A search of the web will reveal literally thousands of them.

How about National Anthems?

Or Film themes?

I tried doing this and it won't play the track. It shows the play icon but no music starts playing. Any ideas?

Could be something simple like enable actions? Right click on the page and check that you haven't selected disable.
Or possibly that you haven't embedded the sound file in the flipchart and it is located elsewhere.
Hope this works. +wave+

They are definitely enabled and it is definitely embedded because it comes up with the playing icon and says the name of the track?

OK - why not post it here and I'll see if it plays for me...

Thanks! It's on the page with the map on. Obviously I was just experimenting and I don't really want that piece of music there!

OK I got a pop up error message from http://www.247license.com/
Could it be that it isn't fully installed on your system yet? Can you play the song in windows media player.
I have reattached the flip with a different song in it (same place) see if that plays at your end. If it does then it is an issue with the download you are using.

It shows that it's playing but can't hear anything even though the sound is turned up. Never mind i'm sure it's probably something to do with my awful school laptop.
Thanks a lot for your help.

The first part of the song is really quiet - try letting it play through and see if you hear anything!!

It played all the way through and still nothing played. I must be doing something wrong or something must be set up wrong on my computer. Not to worry

I have looked at your page and it seems that you have used the properites and set the file to the song etc. Might I suggest, and it is only a suggestion, that you try an mp3 file rather than a WMA. COULD be the prob... may not be. I couldn't get yours to work but you can try this one that I tried and HOPEFULLY (fingers crossed as it is the first time I have tried up loading a file to this place) it will work.

Got me stumped on this one too - I think I'm right in saying you should be okay with a wma file but you just never know!

Will be interesting to hear what the problem is when you solve it!

Yes it comes down down to wma files not being a supported file format for sounds. Either .wav or mp3 are supported.

So either convert from wma to mp3 - I understand ITunes can do this, or if you have to use wma then insert the link as a file rather than a sound - this will then mean that the sound is played in windows media player. Visually not so nice, so conversion is the best policy. www,sounddogogs.com is a great source of sound files in mp3 format.
