Hi

As our younger friends are the digital natives of this ICT world it would be great to encourage them along these lines and with an AP viewer out shortly, and because they are often so creative I would like people to start posting some flps that children have created.....

If this becomes a biggie then we could start up an area within Planet.

I can probably confirm that these flps may only be one pagers.... BUT I knkow this has come up in the forum before....

Any offers? +wave+

I don't get into school enough at the moment, but popped in today and someone accosted me and said, "We've been getting the kids to make flipcharts, you should see Ellie's". Obviously, I couldn't resist. It's raw and unadulterated, but you did ask, Margaret.
This is from Ellie in Y4 (9 years old).

Oh I can't help it. Call me self-indulgent but this is my daughter's effort for her talk on cats that she presented to her class (she's 6).
Admittedly, I gave her a bit of help. She took the video of the cat herself and I helped her to embed it on page 8. Pretty much everything else she did herself.
Poor kid, this is what happens when your dad is Dug.:o

Very cute Dug - and I don't even like cats!

A big [clap] for you both!

That is very cute! I love all the sound effects. They were so real that my own cat was trying to figure out where they were coming from!

What a smart little cookie[clap] The cats were gorgeous and my own daughter was enthralled with the images.

They're all great flipcharts. Well done. [clap] [clap] [clap]
I did like Ellie's best though. She writes 'some' for 'sum' most of the way through then when she gets it right, spells 'sure' as 'shure'. It made me chuckle. But I love children's spelling because often they're phonetically correct. A colleague from Mexico really sympathises!! :) :)

Charlotte (5) has been writing her name and has drawn a self portrait! This was done before she attacked her hair with a pair of scissors at the weekend!

Are you sure that wasn't a picture of her teacher? There's a definite resemblance.:p;)

Hi

I know a teacher in a year 3 class in Lewisham who has his pupils using the literacy images e.g. Gingerbread Man, Hansel and Gretal and making simple flipcharts and writing text and recording their voices.
They then send them to Nursery and reception classes to share.

The pupils in Nursey and Reception love hearing their big brothers and sisters reading their stories.

ps at last a message from me Margaret!!

The flipchart I really loved was one of Margaret's I think. Nursery children were explaining what they'd learned on a trip to a local pond. the teacher had used the sound recorder to record their explanations directly onto the flipchart page. So a 3 year old was explaining quite fluently how frogspawn turned into a frog. Wonderful stuff.
I think whatever level children are working on the board is great because I'm sure it's much better for them to create something rather than having grown ups in control all the time!

Hi
We have an area {} [clap] +wave+ . Go here (http://www.prometheanplanet.com/uk/server/show/nav.3120) and start uploading! How exciting and what a lovely opportunity for children to share their interpretation of the software.

Will my contributions here be ok to go up in that area?

I will have to work out how to do this as my normal computer with all my files on has died!
Ok forget that - I could just download them from here and save them! Doh what an idiot!

It hasn't appeared there yet. I put Jasmine was aged 4, would that have been deleted as the area says flipcharts from children aged 5-11?

Hi

There will be a delay because the person who puts these up is away at the moment and because of the way that we have started them up it is a bit tricky to implement. Sorry....

No problem! I thought it was because Jasmine didn't fall into the age phase! I didn't read all the info before submitting it!

The above link will take you to the relevant area. I believe that in line with the Personalised Learning agenda and in particular the Primary Strategy's dictate that children should be creating their own multimedia presentations we should be ensuring that Flipcharts are exploited!!

I do not believe that these flipcharts to be particularly powerful in terms of what others will get when they download them... this is not the point. The objective is much more about children/students having the chance to share if only with their friends and family. However, what it does offer is yet another avenue whereby we are allowing children the chance to author in an alternative format to the beleaguered powerpoint.

With the recent release of the viewers, particularly AP, children could share their work with parents and carers . Imagine a child downloading the viewer at home and sharing what they have been doing at school today!

This will also hopefully have the knock on effect of encouraging teachers to submit flipcharts too.

Teachers are sometimes reluctant to share their own stuff as they are not sure if "it is good enough".... this may be a way in for some!
