Hi All,

I've had a few teachers come up to me following a class the took on AP 2. They love the embedded files option when creating their charts for the kid. However, the problem that has cropped up is that when they attempt to save a flipchart, it does not allow a save and does not retain the settings for the embedded file after using save as. I have attached the screen that they get after they save their flipcharts.

For example, a teacher was embedding a saved desktop movie called Penguins. After we got it to save by using the Save As feature we went back into to try to get it to play via the embed. However, it doesn't work and instead of penguin.mov in the embedded files setting, we have a real long address that includes a temporary directory.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Anything would be much appreciated.

I'm not certain of this, but I was under the impression that you could not "embed" movies. You could link to them but not embed. I have embedded pdf files though, which are great if you need associated printable worksheets for a particular page.

Of course, embedding movies would prevent you having to port them along with the flipchart if you move either files, but that would make an awfully big flipchart.

Anybody else have other ideas?

I use the PE editon at our HS but I also do not try to embed a movie. I prefer having it open the file, therefore the embed is a link not the file itself. As stated in the previous post the flip chart could become very large. I prefer running the moives as QuickTime.

Hi everyone,

I agree that the file sizes would be cumbersome and unwieldly. The teachers who are asking me like to use this site called PowerMedia Plus which allows them to download clips, much like United Streaming. Some of the sample files have been anywhere from 3 to 12 Mb in size which seems like it would be a very large file to have to open and/or transfer via emails.

I will let them know about the normal open document link and see if that will suit their needs. If anyone has more information on the embed document feature I would also appreciate that :)

Thanks,

Chris

Hi Chris,

I just did a little test in PE trying to embed a movie. It did work, the file was enbedded in the link. I moved the flipchart to a computer that did not have the associated movie file and it still played. However, the movie still pops up in it own window. I read in the help that QT will always do this on the MAC version, so there is no way to get the movie to appear directly on the flipchart page. But, the good news is that the user does not have to worry about having both files in the same place.

The steps I used:
Select an object (image, text or other)
Open properties
Select actions
From the drop down select open embedded Doc or file
Browse to file
Choose it and Hit OK
Close properties box once file is listed

To ensure that everything stays
Go to file or flipchart menu
select "Embeb File Actions"

That should do it.

The steps maybe a little different in primary. Sorry I do not have a copy to test.

Good luck :D
