Can't get devices registered

On 2 computers in school this morning (one a laptop and one on the network), I have plugged the reciever pod into a USB port, and gone to ACTIVote > Devices to register the devices. I get the picture of an old-fashioned controller on the screen, asking me to press buttons 3 and 4, rather than the new-style pods. I've restarted the laptop and upgraded to 2.5.72, but still the same.
Any suggestions?

Damn - just found the answer on the documentation. Need to read instructions! Sorry.

Hold on a minute...it says refer to the USB Getting Started Guide which is on the product CD.

Where? It doesn't appear to be on our MV CD.
