I've just had a nightmare staff INSET training session where I was due to demonstrate ACTIVote to the early adoptors in school. I set it up and tested it all, but at the last minute decided to show ACTIVslate at the same time. I quickly registered it on the same system (noticing as I clicked OK somewhere that it was registering on the same channel as the ACTIVvote).
To my horror, ACTIVote wouldn't then work. I was using it under named mode, and when I was ready to select users, I was unable to click the REGISTER button. It said something like 'Unable to communicate with ACTIVboard'. When I tried to register the devices through Main Menu > ACTIVote > Devices, up came a window with a picture of a boxy 1920s ACTIVote controller (with buttons 3 and 4 flashing), rather than the one asking users to press the middle button or anything.
In the end I had to let the staff go (including the Head - ouch!) and postponed the demo. Not a great start to ACTIVote.
Any ideas as to how to recover would be gratefully received. Have I screwed up the drivers somehow?

You can't use the slate while voting and it doesn't matter that you registered on the same channels. If the system has worked on this computer before it is likely the board somehow lost its connection to the driver and you could well find that after a reboot it works OK. If it doesn't, I suggest tech support.

Thanks for your amazingly quick reply, Lee. I'll try it in the morning and then try to save face tomorrow evening.

How the slate can work with voting is that you can start a voting session by using the slate however if you need to manually stop the voting session by pressing the Activote icon you have to do that at the computer or on the Promethean interactive whiteboard. If I want to use Activote without it conflicting with the slate this is how I set things up.

I change my activote setting to " take users first answer only" when all participants have voted the results automatically pop up therefore the session is automatically stopped.

A general rule if you have any voting techy issues is to make sure you are using the latest board driver and updated the version of Activprimary or Activstudio. Currently it is version 2.5.

My Activotes will not allow me to vote. I am trying to vote in Anonymous Mode and I cannot specify the number devices I want to use. I registered the each unit prior to trying to vote.

I think I remember a trainer saying the order mattered when registering devices, as in slate has to be registered first (I coudl have it backward, so true both ways).
Post if that makes a difference please - hope it helps.
