Hi guys,+wave+

I'm deciding how to spend my e-credits this year - I don't know how many I've got as I ahve to put a bid in, I guess a couple of hudred. I got a IWB this year and I am still VERY new to what she id really capable of. I am going to bid for a good training course in London - any recommendations?

I was very excited about ACTIvote (I am Head of RE - how fab would those little gadgets be!) until i just found out they are an insanely-never-going-to-happen-in-my-lifetime £2000!

So I looked at the slate option - about £300, more likely, and looks useful. I can't really find any really worthwhile resources to buy, and like the look of this as a way to get the quuieter kids involved etc.

Anyone out there got one of these badboys? I really want to make sure I don't just spend the e-credits on c*** and it'a worhtwhile!!

Thanks in adance,

A x

Hi Ange,

Slate isn't purchasable with elcs :( The only reason Activote is was because of the question sets which are a significant part of the bundle....

BUT what is more exciting for you is that Charlotte Key who is a very active user of the forum is also RE in London. Search for all the posts she has put up and I think you will find a "Pandora's box" of stuff.

We have some very good training courses run by teachers and by our own trainers also ex teachers.+wave+

If you are interested then ring Christine Parker 01254298598. Alternatively if you hosted one at your school and invited other RE teachers along that might be a better way and a more efficient way of spending your money?

Wow!

Such as mix of wonderful and less wonderful news! Thanks for that :)

That's a blow about the slate - how bizarre! Hey ho, there you go.
Sounds like an interesting idea about holding training - I shall think on this. Is there any Promethean training just for RE? I am keen to have some subject specific training as I think it would be more beneficial than general.

I am about to search for the 'pandora's box' - great tip - how exciting!!

If I had a hat on I would take it off to you!!

The Activeslate is very useful. Can't imagine not having one!!! I can be anywhere in the classroom and operate the board, eliminating the need to be anywhere it.

The only downside is that the board pen overrides the slate pen. I wish it worked the opposite way. By touching the slate, I'd like to be able to interupt a student's use of the board to make instructional suggestions and then allow them to continue to work.

Shouldn't be too difficult for Promethean to develope some sort of toggle switch to allow either the slate or the board to be the dominant device.

In any case, you won't be sorry for investing in a slate.

I agree. The Slate is fantastic. I am trying to convince to othe staff at the school of its benifits and find some money in the budget to invest in some more as we only have one in the school.

I would like to have an overlay to sit on the slate to alow quick location of tools pens etc.

Super resource [clap]

Once you teach using a slate you will wonder how you taught without it because it allows you to move around the classroom and quickly bring students into the lesson or discussion by having them interact with the board.

The slate is also useful when students are running the flipcharts. I develop flipcharts that can be student run, while I move about the classroom giving aid as needed. The slate user can then have an assistant who calls on students with questions or who have answers etc... You truly become the guide on the side.

I'm afraid the slate is yesterdays news as far as my kids are concerned... they all adore the new magic wand. Sad really when you realise that they are 16 going on 6!!
Must confess I couldn't really see the appeal until I got one - now I'm a convert! :)
