I have users that want to know, Can they import names from SASI or other Student Information Systems without having to type all their students names into the User list for the ACTIVote database? Particularly for Middle and High School Teachers with scores of Students. Has anyone done this? ????

Thanks

Leo

As I recall, I imported mine from a comma-delimited text file that was exported from ours (DEC). I'll have to run through it again to remember how I did it.

Here it is...
Export your class list(s) from SASI as comma-delimited text file.

What I found is that (on the Mac anyway) The database only likes files with the extension .csv so you may have to alter the file extension for the database to be able to import it.
(
I use a MAC so the names may not be the same) Open your user database, Select "FIle" and then "Import", Browse to find your comma-delimited text file.

Hopefully this works on PC also.

Here is exactly what you will need to do.

I am assuming that for attendance you are using "ClassXP" which is the visual client interface for SASI.

-Ask your IT person to create a ClassXP query for you to pull "firstname and last name" of your students.
-The IT person will put the query in the "infolder" box of your ClassXP window.
-Go to each of your class periods and export the queries to your desktop and save them as different file names like "period 1" , "period2" etc.
-Now open these files with notepad.
-Select all text in each notepad file.
-Open Microsoft Excel and paste text in Excel spreadsheet.
-Now save excel spread sheet in "CSV" format.
-Now you are ready to import each student by firstname and last name into Activote User Database.
-Now you are ready to use Activote in named mode for all your students.
Hope this helps

There are some fantastic flash tutorials that take you step by step through how to import names from a CSV file. Here is the link

http://www.prometheanworld.com/uk/html/training/tutorials.shtml

Registration is free. Select either ActivstudioMV or ActivprimaryMV depending on which type of software you are using with your Activotes

I hope this helps
