Hi All,

I have a teacher working in ActivStudio with a resource class. She wants to use a book she is working on with the kids on the ActivBoard. We've tried some scanning of the book pages and she initially had a huge file size for the scans. I was able to photoshop them all down to a managable size but she still has a 5.9 Mb flipchart. I have a feeling this is going to bog down ActivStudio to the point it will be snail like.

Does anyone know if there is a maximum file size or even a recommended size? Perhaps another suggested way to make it work and still be user friendly?

The current pictures are in Jpeg format, in color and at 8.5 x 11 page size -

I have thought to go B&W and reduce the image size but I think that drops out of the user friendly part.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

As this would be contravening copyright, I am only writing this on the basis that should you ever wish to do it, this sort of information might be useful !! ;) ;)

Because the software is so brilliant !!! Hooray for the team who produce it [clap] [clap] any image can be squashed down to a tiny size so there are a couple of ways to do it.

Make sure you protect your "scanned in" images - not that you would ever scan in a book would you?

With your new selection save them in a folder which you create in your "my images" folder which is within "my documents>myactivstudio>my images"

Then when you open Activstudio those images will be in that folder. To "shrink them down" drag them out onto the page and then back into the library and resave them. This will give you the chance to overwrite your original. This will now shrink those pictures to the ".as2" format which is little! [clap]

Another way - you could navigate to the folder which you currently have the images stored and then drag them out onto the page and then back into a new folder within your library.

Hope that helps..... if you decide to scan in books I do think you need to be a little careful in how you use these resources - the whole copyright area is a tricky one in the UK and there are always discussions about the legalities/etiquette issues....

Sermon over! :(

Have fun! +wave+

Thanks so much for the reply. I had completely forgotten about copyright issues. The funny thing is that we are not selling any of the information or using it to benefit. I think they certainly need to update the fair use standards as it applies to teachers and classroom use.

The suggestions worked perfectly for the few pages we were allowed to use and still stay legal :) :)

Thanks,

Chris

When we first began to purchase the boards, we looked in to copyright issues and we were told that as long as we owned the book we are allowed to scan it for student use. This is in the US, we have the TEACH laws which somewhat spell out the copyright laws for teachers. Does any one in the US have a different read?
