Hello All,

Now that the teachers have seen the magic of ActivBoards and all they want us to get ActiVote pods for them. I love the idea and we are waiting for our first sets to come. However, I am hearing and seeing more about ActiVote VR that would allow us to do similar things before they get here. I have 3 machines set up with the program installed yet and the main machine is set up in the System Preferences as the server but it does not show up on the other machines as an available server nor do the machines show up on the "server" machine. Am I missing something crucial to this?

They 2 "voting" machines are iBook G4s and the "server" machine is a Powerbook G4. All 3 are running wirelessly on an Airport network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Hello Chris,

Initial question is did you enable ACTIVote VR Server by clicking Start button on the ACTIVote tab in the ACTIVboard System Preferences prefpane? If this does not not help, read below :)

Next - are these macs in the same network and see each other (e.g. valid and functioning network)?

Tip: IP addresses of these macs should have similar xxx.xxx.xxx. digits and port 9191 open on server/clients

Are you using any Firewall software on Macs? Norton Personal Firewall or any anything else?

Will come up with more questions if above does not help. Don't worry, we'll make it voting

:D

Cheers

Uzmac is correct (as usual). Please make sure that the ACTIVote VR server is running by clicking on the Start button of the ACTIVote tab in the System Preference panel. Also please ensure that either an ACTIVboard or ACTIVhub is attached. Two version numbers should appear in the System Preference Panel (see attached image Mac ACTIVboard Pref.jpg). ACTIVote VR will NOT run without Promethean hardware.

Thanks for the solutions. I was trying to do all of these without being connected to Promethean hardware and that caused my problem.
