I am just testing ActiveSlate hardware: the wireless tablet. The hardware is quite nifty. I have had a number of other tablets in my hands, but this one is _almost_ perfect. My only disappointment is:

Pen writing is activated but after exerting a fairly strong pressure by the pen on the tablet - such as required when I want to write a _very_solid_ line with a pencil on a paper. This is tidious and unappropriate as soon as I want to write naturally and fluently. It may only be appropriate for 1st year pupils slowly drawing their "A"s and "B"s, but not for adults. We (FU Berlin, comp sci, Echalk) have constructed a pen with a much softer switch. Others have done so without any switch at all. It works well. Why has the ActiveSlate pen such a strong switch?

Best wishes, Christian Zick

Hi Christian,

I have never noticed the problem you described so I decided to try it out. First I tried an old style pen. For handwriting, I had to press slightly harder with the pen, but only slightly and I soon got used to writing this way. When I tried the new pen it was actually a bit easier to write fluently, possibly slightly less pressure is needed. (If you don't know which pen you have, on the old pens the nibs click when you press them. On the new pens the nibs don't click.) I certainly did not have to exert 'fairly strong pressure' as you describe with either style of pen. Perhaps you have a faulty pen - do you have another you could try out? If not why not contact tech support to see if they could get a new pen to you.

That was a problem that I had with the old style pen and once I obtained a replacement all was well!!

thanks for your prompt comments. It seems I have and "old" pen - yes, it does click. I will see the tech support these days.
