Hi,

I was pondering whether it would be good idea to have a tickertape constantly display the "aim" of a session, so I set putting it into practice to see if it would work and I've found that it can be quite annoying and gets in the way of proper computer usage SO I have a suggestion.

When you set up a tickertape, could there please be an extra option so that it'll act like a toolbar and "knock down" other windows so it is always displayed above (or below) everything so you will still be able to use the computer as per usual - minimise, maximise, etc.

For illustrative purposes, I've attached what it should do automatically rather than me having to resize each window !!

Thanks,
Dave

Edit: Experimenting with different features to display the session aim. Best one so far is the note and how you can convert it into a pointer easily - it's brilliant

How does this "note" for aims work? I haven't had much success with adding notes yet.

My dream is to be able to launch the tickertape function from a central location to all ACTIVboards. Now THAT would be a communication tool!

Well I think I use tickertape effectively regularly in my seventh grade math class(California, USA). The students love it for homework assignments. When it gets to that time of the lesson when homework is to be assigned we bring up the tickertape (new). Students choose all the various attributes for color, font, style, etc... as I am enetring the pages and problems to be done. The student who has the choices (it is a daily rotating job) looks at the finished product and then makes any changes to its look. Meanwhile students are copying down the assignment. I also use tickertape to make any announcements of upcoming events, or give brief directions for a task or activity. +wave+

I have heard of the tickertape being used effectively in several types of lesson:
Here's one example. In science when writing up experiments, the teacher has typed in all the key words and the difficult spellings of chemicals/reagents.
The kids have to include all the key words in their write-up and also don't have to keep asking the teacher for spellings of the difficult words. This could be carried over to languages, essay writing, report summaries etc.
