Is it possible in the future to get the software to check automatically for updates to ACTIVstudio on your servers. The user could then be told that an update exists...click to update.
I know that in many network environments an administrator is likely to be needed to actually do it, but it would be great if all the administrator needs to do is log on to each PC, launch ACTIVstudio let it check, and click Update.
Users would also come to the admin team asking for the update. That would quickly solve the problem that I know we have here of some PCs being on 2.1.13 but others being on the buggy 2.0.307.
Many other applications are beginning to do this now.
Just a thought.
ACTIVstudio4???

I think that's a great idea. Only thing would be the additional load it might inflict on the Promethean server... all depends if it could handle it, though.

This is being investigated for a future release...

In some circumstances the procedure may need to be intercepted so that the patch update procedure can be locally managed.

I have a lot of Districts asking for this. Also, our MAC districts would at least like notifications of available updates through macupdates.com

The upcoming version 3 release (coming in New Year) provides update notification that can be switched off.

The new version 3 has a dashboard with a support panel that give you system details and news on any patch that is available.

You can then choose to download and install it.

The Promethean servers are adequately equipped we feel to handle this additional load - we will of course monitor additional traffic and take any corrective action as appropriate.

I have built in a lot of redundancy in our current setup - I believe we are good to go for quite a while!

Do your users of the pc's in the districts have administrator rights to the pc's they log on to, it will most likely be a problem if they don't as modification is needed in the program files folder.

Hooray!

Here's a mac user who would love to have an item that says "Check for updates"

The feature to 'Check For Updates' is now available on the Support panel of the Dashboard in the v3 products.

You'll be able to download the first maintenance update from there in the near future.

Please note V3 has just been released for the UK on PC only. V3 release will be a bit later in the US, and a bit later still for the rest of the world.
Mac V3 to follow. I have no dates or timeline, so please be patient ;)
