View Full Version : Annoying Save problem in OSX

Hello there

We have an OSX network with whiteboards in all the classrooms. We've been using the whiteboards for about 5 weeks now and have updated the Activeprimary software to the latest version.

Anyway, here's a big problem I have discovered....

Sometimes, when I save a flipchart (and this happens with flipcharts I am editing, not necessarily the first save), the program stops for a while, with the 'wait' spinner showing and then the program closes or 'bombs'. The big problem is that it not only doesn't save when this happens, but it completely deletes the file I was working on from the server! So, the other day, I made a minor adjustment to a maths flipchart that I had spent 1 and a half hours on the previous night, and 'poof' it was no more!

Very annoying!

Any Mac gurus have any ideas or useful suggestions?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Steve

Hello Steve,

Very nice hearing I'm not the only user of Mac versions of Promethean software in this forum

Reading what you say based on my experience I can guess you were attempting to save a flipchart to a remote server folder, the path to which appears too long, e.g., exceeds 1024 symbols. Try saving the file on your desktop and manually move it to the server.

Per your saying: "... not only doesn't save when this happens, but it completely deletes the file I was working on from the server! ..." - did you previously save the file before it got deleted? Please tell more on this and I will try sharing my knowledge with you.

Regards.

Yes! That's the really irksome bit, it deletes work that I've already saved. The other day it deleted a maths flipchart that I had spent an hour and a half working on the previous night! Odd thing is that I originally navigated to and saved to the shared folder just fine!

cheers

Sometimes you can "find" a file like this by searching in "My Recent Documents" - that still has the pathway, even if Explorer apparently can't find the file. If this does work, I am sure you will immediately Save to your Hard Drive...

I'm probably being a bit of a dunce, but how do you search 'My Recent Documents' on a Mac (I'm using OS 10.3.9)? ????

I've lost several flipcharts because I keep hitting the Quit button by accident and the Mac version of ACTIV doesn't offer the Save/Close/Cancel options that the PC version offers. :(

ACTIVprimary 2 (v2.1) for Mac does display a dialog with 'Don't Save', 'Cancel' and 'Save' buttons whan you click on the Quit button. Please see attached image QuitAP2Mac.jpg.
This is only shown if changes have been made to a flipchart.

If you are saving to a network, your file would "disappear" if you did not have permission to save to the directory. If it works on your personal machine but not to the network volume, you might check the permissions.

Sorry to disagree, Jos, but this doesn't always happen, at least not for me. Perhaps there's a bug. This is also true when I'm savig t my desktop, so it's not necessarily a network issue either.

On Friday, I popped in to see my Year 3 colleague. She went to click the cog icon and hit the x instead and 'poof' 30 minutes work gone, just like that. Really frustrating!
