Hi,
1. Is the only way to disable actions in inspire in presentation mode (so without having to switch to design mode)? I miss my presentation mode enable actions toggle and I can't find it in tools or a reference to it in help. (I am embarrassed to ask this question!)

2. Is there written material that has a straightforward answer to that and related -- is there a good resource that says here's how you used to do it in activstudio, now you do it this way in Inspire.. that would be great for a migration training.

Thanks as always!

(eagerly anticipating your reply as I switch to design mode to disable my actions until further notice ....)

You can diable actions/switch to design mode by pressing the blue sprocket icon at the top right of the screen, near the page count section. Turning it orange puts you in Design Mode, and turning it blue puts you in Presentation mode.

Sorry-- my question was unclear (I just edited it!). Yes I know that if I switch to design mode the actions are disabled.

My question is specific to the enable disable actions that used to be a toggle with a tool in the tool store. Sometimes I do want to be in presentation mode with actions disabled.

Is there a way to toggle on and off actions while in Presentation mode in Inspire?

And - is there a place that has that kind of info as a reference that says for common things like that how it may be different from Activstudio to Inspire (because the help menu in Inspire didn't address the toggle specifically or that it is gone (so I'm hoping it is there!).

Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I'm not aware of a Disable Actions button like Studio 3 had in the past. That Disable Actions button was a holdover from version 2, and version 3 added Design Mode, which disables actions and "unlocks" locked items (among other things).
Inspire's Design Mode accomplishes the same thing (and un-hides hidden items). They rolled the two features (Design Mode and Disable Actions) into the same button. I just scrolled though a bunch of things, and saw no way to Disable Actions as we used to do in Studio.

As for the reference to Studio to Inspire transition, I like this document, which is basically a new feature tour of Inspire, referrencing old features in Studio in the process. It comes from the free Migration course offered on Promethean Learning. http://Prometheanlearning.com/us/file.php/1/ActivInspire_ActivClassroom.pdf

Why do you want to disable actions when in presentation mode?

In Inspire you can move an object with an action by clicking and dragging it, you can resize it by selecting around it and then using the marquee handles.

Thanks all for the resources and suggestions.

Re: why I was looking for it...

Sometimes disabling actions in Presentation Mode is a shortcut when you are teaching kids and realize there was an assigned action you didn't want to have and/or you don't want the blue action icon bubble to appear as you mouse over something.

Switching to design mode as a solution in that same circumstance isnt' a good option either becuase then you havethe different toolbars and showing hidden and action items ...

so .. for a long time activtusio 3.6 user - I spent a coniserable time looking around for that disable actions toggle.

Hi Barbara,
An interesting way to disable actions on Inspire without going to design mode is to :

(a) Right click on the object that has an embedded action . This will let you get to the property browser and other menu items.

(b) If you want to drag an object without triggering the action, then you can hold down the left mouse button and not let it go and then drag the object.

Again this works fine on a windows platform. You may have to experiment to see what would work on a mac platform.
