I'm trying to get a build working for ActivInspire + Ubuntu to replace XP for our IWBs...

Used it for the first time in a lesson today. Absolute farce. 30 seconds of use, all fine, then machine stops responding to mouse clicks. Unplug board. Mouse clicks come back. Re-plug board, stops. repeat, etc.

Anyone encountered this?

It could well be a hardware thing - I'm using an old TDS ActivBoard over USB.

Ubuntu 9.0.4 32bit, driver = 5.3.29, ActivInspire 1.2 (although ActivInspire running/not-running makes no difference)

More info:

After playing around this evening, I've found that unplugging or connecting the board makes no difference. Mouse click disappears for around 45 seconds, then returns.

Calibration also wildly out each time the board is connected. grr.

Even weirder now.

It seems to be something between the window manager (compiz/metacity) and ActivInspire.

If I don't use ActivInspire, but keep the board plugged in, all is well.

With ActivInspire running, though, I get this strange lockup where the pointer will move, but am unable to left click.

If I switch desktops using the keyboard, then I get mouse input back, but only for the top part of the screen (e.g. top 1/3). I can get occasional clicks in the lower part of the screen by switching desktops then switching back.

If I manage to quit ActivInspire with the above switch/click/switch/click method, then after about 30 seconds I get full control back again.

Driver update on Friday seems to have fixed the problem...

Spoke too soon. Lock up this morning (using ActivInspire, no desktop effects) during a lesson. Grr. Was drawing on a flip, clicked next page, Nothing. No click.

Could you use the program called activaid to post a diagnostics log on this forum please ?
There are several ways to start it, the quickest is to open a terminal and type activaid

Select the "Diagnostic" option (you may need to click on thew arrow at the end of the toolbar to see this option) and it will create a tar.gz file in your home directory, post it on this forum and we will have a look.

Regards,
