View Full Version : Quality of Pasted pictures?

Hello there,

when I copy a photograph from the internet and paste it into Activprimary (through right-click copy/pasting), the version that ends up on my flipchart page seems to be shown at a much lower colour depth (looks like 256 colours or something) as a result, a picture which has a gradient fill background shows up as a series of ugly wide stripes.
The same happens when I use the camera tool to capture images (for example stills from a video).

Is there a setting I need to change or just a limitation?

Also, if there a way to stop pictures copy/pasted from the internet being treated as links to the page from which they came. I know I can click on the picture and remove the associated 'action' but I'd rather save time by it not doing this in the first place!

cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,

As you rightly suspect, Activstudio and Activprimary both convert images to 256 colours when they are added into the flipchart.
You might want to consider moving to ActivInspire as it maintains the full colour depth for new images when they are added into the flipchart.

Ah I see... Sadly our classroom computers are not Intel-processor models and thus won't run Activinspire...

Sigh...

The colour reduction feature within Activprimary is not quite as sophisticated as that found in dedicated graphics packages.

One suggestion is to use The GIMP, a free graphics editor. The GIMP allows you to downgrade images to Indexed images (ie 256 colours), using advanced dithering techniques. So you could downgrade your offending images using the GIMP, then add these into your flipchart.

The attached flipchart shows the same image, the one on the right having been reduced using the GIMP prior to inserting it into the flipchart.

Thanks very much, that would work but, frankly, life's too short to be doing that all the time!
